Greater Victoria Harbour Authority -- Chief Executive Officer
Chief Executive Officer
Greater Victoria Harbour Authority
Victoria, BC

Greater Victoria Harbour Authority (GVHA) is a very important, $17 million, non-governmental, not-for-profit, commercial organization committed to the economic sustainability and community stewardship of Victoria's working harbour. The Harbour is iconic and services a critical role in the business and community ecosystems and is on the traditional and unceded territory of the Lekwungen People (the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations).

GVHA is a complex organization that is governed by their constitution and by-laws which are overseen by a 13-member Policy Board which is made up of appointees of the 8 member agencies and 4 independent directors. It not only works closely with their member agencies but also with a wide range of industry associations, companies, the municipal and provincial government and community stakeholders to ensure the environmental, social and economic integrity of every aspect of its operations.

Since its creation in 2002, GVHA has been the steward of land and marine assets divested by the Government of Canada. GVHA owns and operates several high-profile assets including Inner Harbour's lower causeway, the customs dock at Raymur Point, the Breakwater District at Odgen Point, Fisherman's Wharf, Ship Point and the four inner harbour marinas. GVHA is a major economic generator for the region, contributing more than $130 million annually to the regional economy, and is responsible for 800 direct and indirect jobs in Greater Victoria. GVHA's primary economic generator is the cruise operations at Ogden Point, which contribute to over 70% of the organization's revenue. The organization's commitment to working in partnership with the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations has earned GVHA a Silver Certification from the Canadian Council of Aboriginal Business for their progressive Aboriginal Relations Program.

With the announced retirement of the CEO, the Board is launching a search for their next leader who can build on their success in building partnerships, navigating through COVID19, enhancing the cruise business, and advancing discussion with all levels of government on funding needed for infrastructure projects.

Accountable to the Board, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will have the opportunity to lead the organization through a strategic planning process that will set the course for the next ten years. Critical to this plan will be the development of a business strategy that diversifies the revenue sources, builds on the foundation that GVHA has with the cruise industry, the creation of a master plan for its properties, especially Ogden Point, and the creation of partnerships with government and businesses to fund capital projects.

You are a proven executive who has had full P&L responsibility. Over your career, you have gained a reputation for leading strategic planning, advancing organizational discipline, instilling a culture of collaboration, advancing revenue development and managing complex stakeholder engagement in an organization that values its Indigenous partnerships. You have clearly demonstrated the ability to drive change that supports the achievement of strategic, operational and financial objectives. Should you have a background in the tourism, transportation, marine or land management sectors, it would be an advantage.
This is truly a unique opportunity to work in iconic Victoria and drive growth and diversification that supports GVHA, its member agencies, the broader business community, and the residents in the Greater Victoria region.
