At Lyterian Therapeutics, we are committed to developing medicines for patients in need by co-opting physiologically-relevant protein homeostatic mechanisms to regulate genetically-validated targets.

As Senior/Principal Scientist, Structural Biology, you will lead strategy for macromolecular X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy (cryoEM), and NMR spectroscopy to study structures of protein and protein complexes related to Lyterian's platform. By collaborating closely with protein biochemists, biophysicist, and molecular biologists, you will uncover fundamental biology behind induced protein degradation.

We look for teammates who are inspired by our mission and want to work in a collaborative, rigorous, and entrepreneurial environment. We seek candidateswho are self-motivated, collaborative, proactive, and possess a strong desire to discover novel biology and new drugs. Efficient time management, excellent organizational and communication skills, and passion for high-quality, translational science are essential.
Impact You'll Make:
  • Optimize protein samples for structure determination by cryoEM, NMR, or X-ray crystallography
  • Conduct protein crystallization, crystal manipulation, X-ray diffraction coordination and data collection
  • Perform cryo-EM data collection, data processing, model building and structure analysis
  • Consult about protein production, purification, and characterization strategy with reference to project needs and prioritization
  • Communicate with protein biochemists, molecular biologists, assay developers, pharmacologists and translational biologists to optimize workflow
  • Collaborate closely with chemists and engage in cycles of structure-based drug design
  • Serve as a scientific leader and subject matter expert (SME) on multiple project teams
  • Develop and contribute to company's intellectual property (IP) domain by way of patents and/or publications, often as principal author
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging scientific literature
  • Collaborate and communicate across a diverse scientific team to successfully progress Lyterian goals
Qualifications:
  • PhD + 4-10 years of relevant postdoctoral or industrial experience
  • Extensive experience preparing samples for cryoEM, NMR, and/or crystallography
  • Hands-on experience with macromolecule crystallization, crystal manipulation, synchrotron X-ray diffraction data collection, data processing, structure determination and refinement
  • Experience studying challenging classes of proteins, such as membrane proteins or proteins that form pathological aggregate is a plus
  • Keen analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to resolve routine issues using appropriate information
  • Understanding of protein production and purification
  • Experience in molecular cloning and construct design
  • Expertise in modern laboratory and analytical methods, including affinity tag and classical non-affinity tag purification methods, mass spectrometry (MS), CD, and SEC-MALS/DLS, DSF/thermal shift assays is a plus
  • Experience working with external vendors and/or CROs
  • Evidence of scientific excellence and impact as illustrated by scientific publications and presentations
  • Initiative and boldness to dive into a fast-paced new startup

The expected base salary range for this role is $130,000 - $160,000 for Senior Scientist level and $155,000 - $185,000 for Principal Scientist level.
