The Sustainability Accelerator serves as a launch pad to leverage knowledge and expertise at Stanford and co-develop potentially scalable sustainability technology and policy solutions with external partners worldwide, with the goal to substantially and measurably improve the quality of human life and our planet.

The Sustainability Accelerator is seeking one or more full-time Associate Directors of Technology, as members of the Accelerator Technology team, you will identify opportunities for external engagement and foster productive pathways for Stanford innovators to work with outside partners. In this role you'll be a primary liaison helping to foster and manage complex, high-value, and strategic partnerships between the School of Sustainability and a wide variety of external stakeholders as well faculty, students, and staff. The Associate Director will be responsible for stewarding Accelerator technology projects, including: mentoring faculty-led project teams, facilitating team engagement with external partners.

Successful candidates will have extensive experience and a proven track record in science, engineering, and technology R&D, along with an understanding of the University's core mission and how to work effectively within an academic setting to move technology forward. Experience mentoring and leading teams, as well as a network of relationships with potential external partners, are essential attributes. A demonstrated commitment to environmental equity and social justice is also imperative. Critically, this position requires an ability to interact with a wide variety of experts across many different disciplines on campus and to help guide their efforts in cultivating a work environment within the Accelerator that can benefit the broad group of innovators within the Stanford ecosystem.

Your Responsibilities will include:
● Manage and grow high-value external relationships with strategic value to project teams. Cultivate strong working relationships with existing high tech, clean tech, and climate change focused companies, accelerators and funders.
● Mentor and support project teams to develop actionable plans for direct impact, troubleshoot project barriers, recommend pivots, advise on commercialization, and scale questions.
● Identify external partner candidates for the investment in innovative technology projects and be a part of future grant design and selection process.
● Co-develop impact metrics for Accelerator-funded projects, and for the larger direction of Accelerator.
● Facilitate connections and negotiations between project teams and external partners to align mutually beneficial objectives.
● Develop and help execute comprehensive change management strategy and communication plan relative to technology project scope and stakeholders; orchestrate and lead change management methodologies underlying project success.
● Recommend actions and/or resolve complex issues that often span organizational boundaries.

● Liaise with the Office of Technology Licensing office in evaluating and analyzing new invention /technology projects.

● Represent the Sustainability Accelerator to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.

● Connect grantees with the Stanford education ecosystem including new Ecopreneurship efforts and help develop project-specific educational experiences for Stanford students.

● Develop and manage education programs for cohorts of funded accelerator grantees to improve project outcomes and develop internal expertise in creating sustainability impact with speed and at scale.

To be successful in this position, you will need:

● Bachelor's degree (in a scientific or engineering discipline preferred) and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
● Highly effective written and oral communication skills to address a wide variety of audiences.
● Demonstrated project management ability to employ integration, scope time management, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk, and procurement components.
● Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence and motivate constituencies which could span multiple organizational boundaries.
● Demonstrated excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills.
● Ability to balance customer expectations with project reality.
● Demonstrated resilience, diplomacy, influence, relationship building, and problem solving skills in a variety of situations.
● Relevant subject matter expertise, for example, in scaling and commercializing technology solutions

In addition, our preferred requirements include:

● Ideal candidates will have deep knowledge of and network within sustainability and climate change technologies,
● An ability to engage and attract participation by Stanford faculty and staff in impact focused activities.
● Experience in scale and commercialization to deliver technology projects
● Experience connecting and interfacing with scientists and entrepreneurs.
● Demonstrated ability to make sound business decisions and independently exercise sound judgment and decision making, problem solving and critical analysis.
● Teaching experience
● Familiarity with patent laws, licensing, industry and regulatory requirements.
● Knowledge of Stanford University systems and policies
● Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and Google products, and ability to learn applicable business-related systems.
