Job Description
What You Will Be Doing
Oversees and manages Natural Resource Specialists 1 and 2, Natural Resource Technicians 2 and 3, and an Administrative Assistant performing various duties from processing state mining claims, annual rental payments and maintaining the records of over 32,000 State of Alaska mining claims, prospecting sites, and mining leases. Tackles complex issues concerning land and mineral tenure for Alaska's mining industry as the primary assistant to the Mineral Property Managing Geologist. Provides input and recommendations to senior management personnel on critical matters affecting the mining community and impacting the State of Alaska

Mineral Property Management's responsibility is to provide the maximum use and recovery of minerals for the benefit of the people and to provide income to the State from rent, royalties, and fees through the management of these lands. As the manager of the Mineral Property Management, the incumbent will set a flexible work schedule for him/her self and staff, manage teleworking agreements, and approve leave. This flex position provides a good starting point in management and allows for advancement within the group with a flex promotion. The manager is one of the main points of contact in the section and will communicate with the general public and mining personnel, including maintaining the group's website and updating fact sheets and mining forms. Participates in meeting with other sections and departments, ensuring that the issues concerning the mining community are heard and defended.
The Working Environment You Can Expect
Office with window at 550 W. 7th Ave, Anchorage, the incumbent interacts with staff and the general public in person, by phone, and by email. Provides training and educates a wide variety of individuals in the mining laws of Alaska and the importance of the group's function for the maximum benefit of not only the mining community but all of Alaska. Attends meetings both in person and virtually with other divisions within DNR and outside departments.

Flexibly Staffed
This vacancy may be filled at either the Natural Resource Manager 1 or 2 level, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at Level 1, promotion to the Level 2 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
