Scientist, Assay Biology and High Throughput Screening
Computation is revolutionizing drug discovery. Advances in bigchemical data, massive computing power, artificial intelligence, andmolecular dynamics simulation are changing the way we develop newdrugs. At 1910 Genetics, we put computation at the heart of drugdiscovery, blending expertise in computational chemistry, structuralbiology, pharmacology, genetics, data science, and softwareengineering to develop drugs for previously undruggable targets.
You are someone we can count on to…
  • Act as both an Individual Contributor (IC), who can roll up her sleeve, and play an important role in our mission to use AI/ML to develop drugs against historically difficult disease targets, as well as a Leader who can build and grow the Biochemistry & Structural Biophysics team
You will own…
  • All aspects of the company's biochemistry and structural biophysics efforts
  • Development and implementation of automated biochemical and cell based HTS assays, spanning both target based and phenotype based screens
  • Strict adherence to the NIH NCATS Assay Guidance Manual for automated HTS of drug candidates
  • All wet lab experiments required to characterize potential drug candidates including protein purification, structure determination via X-RC or CryoEM, binding characterizations (e.g. SPR)
  • High quality data analysis and statistical interpretation and reporting
  • The growth of the Biochemistry & Structural Biophysics team
You will teach…
  • The NIH NCATS Assay Guidance Manual and HTS success criteria to your cross-disciplinary colleagues from Medicinal Chemistry, Computational Chemistry, AI Research, and Machine Learning Engineering
You will learn…
  • Computational and Medicinal Chemistry
  • AI/ML applied to drug discovery
You will improve…
  • Our adherence to the NIH NCATS Assay Guidance Manual
  • Our existing process for progressing from computational hit to experimental hit to lead to drug candidate
Within 1 month you will…
  • Validate one biochemical target-based HTS assay according to the NIH NCATS Assay Guidance Manual
  • Screen a few hundred computational hits
  • Co-author provisional patents on successful hits
Within 3 months you will…
  • Validate one cellular target based HTS assay according to the NIH NCATS Assay Guidance Manual
  • Validate one biochemical phenotype based HTS assay according to the NIH NCATS Assay Guidance Manual
  • Screen a few hundred computational hits
  • Co-author provisional patents on successful hits
Within 6 months you will…
  • Validate a biochemical or cellular hit from a target based screen in a clinically relevant animal model of disease
  • Validate one cellular phenotype-based HTS assay according to the NIH NCATS Assay Guidance Manual
  • Screen a few hundred computational hits
  • Co-author provisional patents on successful hits
Within 12 months you will…
  • Nominate a lead candidate for progression into IND-enabling studies
  • Grow the Biochemistry & Structural Biophysics team
  • Extremely generous equity package coupled with competitive salary
