Overview:
The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Utah State University (USU) and Utah Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (UVDL) invites applications for a full-time, fiscal year (12-month),non-tenure track, clinical assistant professor position in veterinary clinical pathology. This is a one-year temporary position that is renewable annually for up to two additional years, depending upon continued need and funding availability. Applications received by February 15, 2023 will be considered in the initial evaluation process, and candidate review will continue until the position is filled. The anticipated start date is March 1, 2023. The UVDL (https://www.usu.edu/uvdl/) is a cooperative effort led by the USU CVM (https://vetmed.usu.edu/) and the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF; https://ag.utah.gov/) to provide diagnostic veterinary services to, not only veterinarians and producers in the state of Utah, but also the surrounding Intermountain region and numerous public and private research entities. The UVDL is accredited by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD), and offers competitive diagnostic services in clinical pathology, anatomic pathology, molecular biology, serology, bacteriology, virology, and parasitology. Public and private research endeavors supported by the UVDL include but are not limited to studies involving infectious diseases, toxicology, animal molecular genetics, reproductive biology and development, nutrition and growth biology, and cloning and stem cell biology. The successful applicant will join a team at the UVDL main laboratory branch in Logan, Utah, which includes one board-certified clinical pathologist (not including this position), five board-certified anatomic pathologists, one research scientist, one quality assurance manager, anatomic pathology residents, graduate students, laboratory technicians, and administrative support staff. The UVDL clinical pathology laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation (Sysmex XN-1000V, DiaSys 910R-VET, and Immulite 2000) and staffed by an ASCP-certified medical technologist. Clinical pathology services include automated hematology, clinical chemistry, and endocrinology as well as manual cytology, fluid analysis, and urinalysis. Caseload submissions are diverse and range from food and companion animals to laboratory animals and wildlife. The clinical laboratory is also dedicated to educating current and future veterinarians, and does so through pre-clinical teaching to Year 2 veterinary students, clinical training to resident and graduate students, and also continuing education to practitioners sponsored by the USU CVM, the Cache Valley Veterinary Practitioners Association (CVPA), and the Utah Veterinary Medical Association (UVMA).

Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will be expected to:Provide diagnostic clinical pathology services at the Utah Veterinary Medical Laboratory (UVDL)Work closely with the clinical pathology section head and laboratory manager to ensure timely and high-quality sample processing, diagnostic testing, clinical case reporting, proficiency testing, validation and correlation study testing, and new laboratory information system deployment. Provide clinical diagnostic service, there are also opportunities to instruct veterinary students and train residents and graduate students (if desired). If the position is filled by an American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP)-eligible veterinary clinical pathologist, then ample time will be allocated during the work schedule for self-study and board exam preparation.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:At the time of hire, the candidate must hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD) degree or a foreign equivalent degree (BVSc)Satisfactorily completed three years of residency training in veterinary clinical pathology at a recognized institution (ACVP or ECVP)Be board-certified or board-eligible in veterinary clinical pathology by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) and/or the European College of Veterinary Pathology (ECVP) Excellent communication skills (English) are essential. The candidate selected for this position must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time of appointment and throughout the proposed term of employment Successful candidates must also demonstrate a commitment and ability to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion. Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to individuals with ACVP board certification, a graduate degree (MS or PhD), and/or ? 2 years-experience in diagnostic veterinary clinical pathology.

The USU CMV is currently a partner in the Washington-Idaho-Montana-Utah (WIMU) Regional Program in Veterinary Medicine. Our veterinary medicine students spend their first two years at USU and then transfer to Washington State University (WSU) and finish the last two years of their Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. Currently, thirty students are admitted to USU's program each year. With the creation of the USU College of Veterinary Medicine, USU's ninth and newest college, veterinary students will be able to spend all four years in Utah.
