Job Details

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and other duties as assigned:

1. Read plates as required to determine the number of organisms in the sample
2. Record findings on worksheets for verification
3. Write identification onto plates so that sample numbers can be tracked
4. Pipette sample solution into tubes or plates according to the analysis process being performed
5. Prepare sample for analysis by recording, weighing, and blending
6. Collect plates and place them in the incubator for the specified amount of time and temperature
7. Sterilize materials needed for analysis
8. Autoclave plates before discarding
9. Perform pH, Brix, and other analysis tests on sample when needed
10. Ensure that media and materials are prepared for the next testing sequence
11. Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities
12. Micro lab equipment cleaning, temperature verifications, pH and scale calibration, pipettes verification.
13. Finish goods, special customer micro testing requests, shelf life for both plants
14. Analyze Plant 1 and Plant 2 finish products micros and environmental swab testing
15. Environmental swabs, data entry, and paperwork as needed
16. Set up equipment and materials needed for analysis
17. Support quality and continuous improvement process
18. Prepare sample to 3rd party laboratory. Review COA and COA verification for 3rd party laboratories
19. Perform necessary housekeeping duties on time, keeping the work areas and equipment clean and sanitized
20. Safety equipment of gloves, laboratory coat, and eyeglasses may need to be worn depending on the testing process
21. The incumbent may use the autoclave daily to complete the analysis process
22. Prepare, review, and report results of microbiological analyses
23. Proactively maintain and document records per established procedures
24. Identify and communicate results that require further investigation or discussion with the Department Manager/Supervisor
25. Maintain good laboratory practices and follow all food safety protocols.
26. Perform lab supplies and equipment inventory check
27. Responsible for calibration of lab equipment
28. Participate in proficiency test as needed per lab and customer requirements
29. Support any special project from the Quality department or given by the supervisor/manager

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum BS in Food Science, microbiology, or any science degree
  • Preferred experience with Laboratory
  • Broad knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures of a food testing laboratory
  • Detail-oriented
  • 2 -3 years' experience in food manufacturing plant performing quality or analytical procedures related to production
  • Strong organizing skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Must be able to prioritize and handle multiple projects at the same time
  • Be able to work independently or in a team environment
