A team member will have the opportunity to make a global and long-lasting impact on the defining challenge of our time - climate change.

Why join us?

OUR VISION
A world in which global economic prosperity is no longer a threat to the climate.

OUR MISSION
To enable concrete manufacturing to drive large-scale greenhouse gas reductions through the cost-effective utilization of CO2 and other industrial waste.

Job Details

We address climate change by permanently and cost-effectively reducing cement usage and storing CO2 in concrete. Our innovative , award winning technology is focused on making the leap from two successful pilot demonstrations to our first commercial plant. Our employees will have the opportunity to make a global and long-lasting impact on the defining challenge of our time - climate change. As we prepare for our commercial introduction, we are seeking a concrete scientist to join our rapidly growing team.

You will work directly with the engineering team to design innovative low-carbon concrete formulations that will cure with gaseous CO2 via mineralization. You will conduct research including hands-on lab testing, data analysis, literature review, and field testing/demonstration.

  • M.S. in Civil Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, Geochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or other comparable fields plus one or more years of relevant experience in research and development on cement/concrete, or Ph.D. in a related field
  • Knowledge of cement chemistry, hydration reaction, and carbonation reactions
  • Knowledge of design and development of alternative cementitious materials
  • Ability to extend principles of reactivity mechanisms from cement to alternative binder
  • Ability to select and perform analytical techniques for characterization of alternative binder systems to develop composition-reactivity-property relationships
  • Familiarity with statistical methods including design of experiments and machine learning methods

Responsibilities:
  • Develop a screening methodology and qualification criteria to assess the suitability of binder systems
  • Exploit hydration/carbonation reactions of cementitious materials to develop sustainable binder systems
  • Develop mechanochemical routes to activate hydration/carbonation reactions of binders for concrete applications
  • Conduct laboratory functions, including hands-on testing, materials characterization, concrete testing
  • Travel to project sites to demonstrate the technology at a pilot scale (for up to 2 months per year; e.g., 4-8 1-week trips)
