Job Details

The Aquaculture Program Director's goal is to directly support the IDEAS For Us Florida Green Jobs Youth Initiative.
The Florida Green Jobs Youth Initiative is a comprehensive statewide initiative providing hands-on STEM education and certifying Florida's youth for the green jobs of the future. Employees' daily job tasks include feeding, cleaning, fish handling, record keeping, water quality measurements, normal fish husbandry and general cleaning of equipment and facilities. Employees can expect outdoor work around the ponds including feeding, water quality measurements, mowing/weed eating, pond seining, fish grading and weekend fish sales. Employees will work closely with researchers, other research personnel and supervisors. Employees will work as part of a team, which is instrumental in creating a quality atmosphere for production and education.

The Aquaculture Program Director shall be responsible for:

● Aquaponic Systems Management in Overtown, Miami
  • Aquaculture System Design and Implementation Alongside
  • Engaging in Urban Fish and Shellfish Production

● Providing Training & Educational Workshops Regarding:

Requirements

● Must be able to lift fifty pounds.

● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

● Be able to handle multiple projects and priorities with a strong attention to detail.

● Have excellent verbal and communication skills with the ability to present thoughts and ideas clearly.

● Have a desire to promote environmental awareness and eco-action projects available to communities far and wide.

● Be reliable, flexible, and punctual

● Be a self-starter and able to work independently

● Maintain the highest level of confidentiality.

● Adhere to and perform well against all IDEAS For Us policies and procedures.

● Have reliable transportation.

Education & Experience

● The education preferred for an aquaculture specialist is typically a bachelor's degree in aquaculture, marine biology or a related basic science such as zoology, chemistry or physics.

● Work experience in aquaculture-related activities will be considered.
