Associate Director/Director, Computational Biology
The ideal candidate will be an expert in oncology-focused bioinformatics, and have direct experience building and managing a computational biology infrastructure with a focus on clinical genomics. The individual will possess a high level of motivation and collaboration to work across project teams, interfacing primarily with Translational Research, Clinical, and Discovery Biology to help discover predictive and PD biomarkers and identify novel synthetic-lethal relationships.
Job Responsibilities:
* Develop the strategy and set priorities for the internal bioinformatics function
* Act as an internal thought leader on data analysis for translational and clinical programs
* Build-out and maintain custom, clinical-grade NGS pipelines with an emphasis on clinical genomic annotation
* Manage the maintenance of our cloud-based infrastructure for data storage processing
* Evaluate and implement relevant commercial and open-source pipelines and software packages
* Contribute to the development of new methods and algorithms to identify and characterize alterations in tumor DNA and RNA derived from pre-clinical and clinical cancer specimens
* Identify and manage external vendors, CRO's, and consultants
* Mine publicly available and proprietary oncology-focused genomic databases to make novel insights and generate new hypotheses
* Interpret results and build effective tools to present findings to project teams in clear and concise manner
Job Qualifications:
* PhD in computational biology or bioinformatics with a combined 8+ years of postdoctoral research experience and/or bioinformatics experience in biotech and/or pharma industry
* Experience managing internal or external bioinformatic resources, and setting departmental priorities
* Extensive experience in building and maintaining clinical-grade NGS pipelines, with specific experience in genomic variant allele annotation, RNA-seq data and pathway analysis of clinical samples
* Experience in cancer research, including a working understanding of computational approaches for cancer genome analysis and predictive biomarker discovery
* Prior experience building and managing an AWS-based bioinformatics infrastructure
* Experience in mining and analysis of oncology genomic databases, such as TCGA, cbioportal, Foundation Medicine Insights, etc.
* Expertise in R and Bioconductor, cloud computing, modern scripting languages
* Proficiency in building custom data visualization tools, such as R Shiny
* Detail-oriented and well organized with the ability to organize and maintain detailed records, databases, and pipelines
* Ability to communicate clearly and decisively in an open, timely manner
* A sense of adventure and excitement to help build a successful biotech company and work in a highly dynamic research environment
