Job Description
Our Portland based Food/Environmental laboratory is currently looking to fill a Full-time position for an Environmental Chemistry Analyst with the following qualifications:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Wet chemistry analyses using EPA methods 1664 (Oil and Grease), 405.1 (BOD), 150.1 (pH), 410.4 (Chemical Oxygen Demand), SM 2540 (Solids), SM methods 2130 B (Turbidity), 4500-Cl G (Residual Chlorine), 4500-0 G (Dissolved Oxygen). EPA 300, SM 5210 (BOD), EPA 351.2/350.1 (TKN/Ammonia using Continuous Flow analyzer).
  • Assist and perform routine laboratory examinations, procedures, and other related laboratory functions under general supervision.
  • Perform routine testing of samples in our water quality department.
  • Work with the lab supervisor to determine priority of samples, including;
  • Solution preparation
  • Sample preparation
  • Instrument setup
  • Data processing
  • Result entry into LIMS
  • Instrument troubleshooting and routine instrument maintenance.
  • Perform secondary review of data.
  • Prepare reports and summarize large amounts of data using Excel, instrument software and LIMS.
  • Properly handle and dispose of laboratory hazardous waste.
  • Shared responsibility for inventory and restocking of supplies for general laboratory needs.
  • Seek opportunities to reduce routine laboratory costs by increased efficiency (higher throughput, decreased cost of supplies).
  • Execute projects as assigned to meet changing laboratory needs and requirements.
  • Shared responsibility for general laboratory organization and cleanliness.
  • Communication of relevant work details to Lab Supervisor and coworkers.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications

  • Good knowledge of laboratory terminology; wet chemistry, bench work, equipment, materials, and the techniques/procedures commonly used in association with water testing.
  • Previous experience with TNI and associated Quality Assurance requirements,
  • Software: LIMS, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook. etc.
  • Attention to detail.


Education and Experience:

  • The successful candidate will have BA/BS in Chemistry or related field.
  • A preference will be towards candidates that have experience working with methods mentioned above.
  • 2 years' experience working in a production laboratory.
