Job Description
Who we are:

Climate change is one of the existential crises of our times, and the question remains: how much hotter are we going to let it get?

Founded at the University of Chicago, Climate Vault is helping organizations and individuals reduce their carbon footprints while fostering innovation in the carbon removal space. Climate Vault is a Delaware-incorporated non-stock, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

From a foundation of success, we are building our team to have an even greater impact. As a fast-growing non-profit startup, we are looking for go-getters who are excited to build an organization focused on hyper-growth and meaningful change. Culture is important to us - from the ground up we focus on moving the needle and getting (important) things done.

If you are passionate about the world around you, want to work with a talented team of like-minded individuals, and be a part of the solution to climate change - we want you.

Who you are:

You are an intellectually curious and detail-oriented individual with exceptional communication skills and demonstrated research experience.

What you will do:

As a Research Associate on the Climate Vault team, you will lead in-depth research efforts on a variety of environmental topics that will facilitate knowledge-sharing and critical decision-making across the organization. Reporting to the Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) Projects Manager, you will be called upon to answer complex questions, distill and crisply convey your findings, and establish yourself as the reliable, go-to expert on these topics and related developments.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct in-depth, independent research on a variety of topics related to climate change, the environmental markets, and related industry reporting standards and frameworks
  • Prepare presentations, written briefs, factsheets and talking points based on research findings
  • Develop and maintain a robust database of supporting data and research
  • Proactively monitor for real-time market developments and research advancements and update research materials and related collateral accordingly
  • Become knowledgeable about respective research topics and serve as the go-to source for information on these topics and related developments
  • Collaborate across the organization as needed to facilitate research efforts, share insights, and support organizational initiatives
  • Perform administrative and other tasks as required

What you will need:
  • Bachelor's degree (in economics, environmental science, or related field preferred)
  • 3-5 years of relevant research and/or work experience
  • Demonstrated interest in climate change and the environmental markets with the desire to broaden knowledge and deepen expertise. Working knowledge of the compliance carbon markets, voluntary carbon markets, and/or environmental reporting frameworks (e.g., GHG Protocol, SBTi), a plus
  • Exceptional communication skills. Able to adapt communication style for diverse audiences, both written and verbal, and distill complex information into easy-to-understand language and formats
  • Excellent project- and time-management skills. Able to meet multiple deadlines by maintaining a high level of organization
  • Critical and creative thinker with strong attention to detail
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and growing organization
  • Must be comfortable working in a fully remote environment
