The Assistant Professor of Biology would be required to teach four undergraduate classes per semester selected from but not limited to: Lecture and lab for General Biology 1&2, Anatomy and Physiology 1&2, Microbiology, and classes in Genetics and Cell Biology. Other classes may be available for additional compensation. In addition, the position requires mentoring the students in doing independent study projects. Rank and salary are dependent on qualifications.

  • Instructional activities to include but not limited to: Lectures, class discussions, demonstration labs, and projects.
  • Understanding and experience in distance learning.
  • Mentor students in doing independent study projects.
  • Provide academic student advisement; participate in student recruitment activities.
  • Serve on college committees.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development toward an understanding of advances and developments in Biology and related sciences as well as the teaching profession.
  • Contribute to the department's curriculum development efforts

Administrative role - for a Deputy Chair of Biology for the Lander College for Women
  • In addition to the responsibilities above this person will also serve as the Deputy Chair of the Biology Department for this campus and will answer to the Chairman.
  • Administrative duties include but are not limited to: Scheduling and staffing classes
  • Observing and evaluating professors
  • Overseeing the operation of the teaching labs
  • Preparing lab budget
  • Student advisement
  • Mediating issues between students and professors.
  • Released time is available for serving as the Deputy Chairman.

Education/ Experience
  • Doctorate Degree required.
  • Experience teaching at the college level.
  • Administrative experience a must.
  • Funded research and experience with grant writing a plus.

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Requires ability to manage multiple and varied tasks with frequent high level of sophistication and maturity in social and professional settings.
  • Proficiency in Canvas and Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
