The Department of Biology at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position, anticipated to begin Fall 2023.
We seek an integrative biologist working in aquatic or terrestrial systems with preference for research in eco-immunology, eco-physiology, molecular ecology, or animal neurobiology/neuroethology.
The ideal candidate will show potential to develop and maintain an extramurally funded research program including research opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students, as well as a commitment to inclusive excellence in teaching, effective mentoring, strong academic support for our diverse student population, and service to the department and profession. Based on current workload policies, teaching duties will include two courses per academic year, with subjects to be determined based on departmental needs and the successful candidate's areas of expertise.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. from an accredited institution at the time of application. The ideal candidate will have relevant postdoctoral training or work experience. A demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplines is desirable.
UCF requires all applications and supporting documents to be submitted electronically through the Human Resources website, http://ucf.edu/jobs (search "Integrative Biologist"). In addition to the online application, interested candidates should upload a single PDF document that includes: (1) a cover letter that explains how the applicant's research relates to the position description and complements current departmental expertise; (2) a curriculum vitae; (3) a statement of research interests and plans (limit 2 pages); (4) a teaching statement including a philosophy for pedagogy and mentorship, as well as potential courses the candidate could teach or develop (limit 2 pages); (5) an Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity statement that describes how the candidate has contributed to a culture of inclusion and equity in science, and how the applicant would continue to do so at UCF (limit 1 page); and (6) contact information for three professional references. All applications must be received by January 4, 2023, for full consideration. Questions regarding the position should be directed to Dr. Will Crampton, Search Committee Chair, at crampton@ucf.edu.
The Department of Biology administers both a Ph.D. program in Integrative and Conservation Biology and a Master's program in Biology. Our facilities include a genomics core laboratory, on-campus animal husbandry and plant cultivation infrastructure, an 800-acre arboretum, and multiple field stations (https://sciences.ucf.edu/biology). Located in Orlando, Florida, UCF is a federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution and classified as a Very High Research Activity university by the Carnegie Foundation. With a diverse and large enrollment (> 66,000), UCF is one of the largest universities in the country, with >200 degree programs.
As a diverse institution we focus on access, belonging, and diverse perspectives. We are seeking an individual who can demonstrate effective engagement in an environment where colleagues and students come from many backgrounds and identities, as well as someone who can demonstrate commitment to equitable and inclusive teaching and research practices. As an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer, UCF encourages all qualified applicants to apply, including women, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and members of traditionally underrepresented populations. UCF's Equal Opportunity Statement can be viewed at: http://www.oie.ucf.edu/documents/PresidentsStatement.pdf.
