Global Energy Innovation - Intern

The Bezos Earth Fund is a new and fast-growing philanthropy dedicated to combating climate change and protecting nature. To inform its strategy and investment decisions, the Bezos Earth Fund is committed to using the best available information on the challenges the world faces; the transformations required to address them; and the effectiveness of interventions to overcome barriers and drive systemic change. The Fund is interested in not only assessing how its support is having impact but also the ways in which transformative change can be created and maintained to address the Fund's strategic priorities and support accelerated achievement of the global energy transition to achieve zero trajectory.

Key Responsibilities

The Bezos Earth Fund is seeking an intern to conduct analysis and research, coordinate convenings and meetings, and otherwise support our program director overseeing the Fund's global energy innovation initiatives and activities. The position requires an adept analyst who can identify and analyze trends and evidence to help the Fund develop and refine its strategies and plans of action to support climate mitigation across the global energy sector (covering a broad spectrum of disciplinaries - including, for example technology, market innovation and sustainable finance solutions). We seek someone with broad interdisciplinary knowledge and exposure to multiple aspects relevant to the climate mitigation agenda and supporting solutions focused on accelerating the global energy transition. This position is for an initial term of six months and can be part time (20 hours per week) or full time (40 hours per week). It will report to the Director of Global Energy Innovation.

The Intern will have the following responsibilities:
  • Provide timely analysis and data to support the launch of new initiatives and effective deployment of funding in line with the Fund's climate mitigation goals. In so doing, conduct analysis and research on the challenges at hand within the global energy sector, the state of play regarding promising solutions (across multiple areas of disciplinaries, including for example technology, business, finance etc.), and evidence about the ingredients of transformational change to accelerate the global energy transformation.
  • Support to monitor and summarize current events in global energy sector to ensure that the Fund is up to date which latest challenges and issues.
  • Conduct background research on key topical areas of interest for the Fund's climate mitigation agenda in the context of the global energy transition.
  • Help identify knowledge gaps where further data, research and innovation can produce changes in society consistent with the Fund's climate mitigation mission to support accelerated transformation within the global energy sector to deliver a more equitable, accessible, and sustainable green future for all.
  • Work directly with the Director of Global Energy Innovation to perform other duties as assigned.


Education
  • Current or recent graduate of a master's or PhD degree program in engineering, environmental science, business strategy or economics, with knowledge of also climate issues and some form of understanding/knowledge of the global energy sector, is required
  • An interdisciplinary background is preferred
  • Prior research and/or analysis experience is required (and a bonus if such experience has already in the past had a focus on climate issues and/or an area of the global energy sector)

  • Excellent academic credentials and professional drive
  • Strong analytical competency and quantitative skills, with proven ability to deliver high-quality work
  • Excellent writing, editing and presentation skills. Also, exceptional verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Great attention to detail
  • Demonstrated passion for the Bezos Earth Fund's mission
  • Self-starter with ability to juggle multiple assignments/priorities at one time and work under tight deadlines
  • Strong experience of using MS Excel and PowerPoint
  • Friendly and positive demeanor
  • Drive, enthusiasm, and motivation
  • Ability to collaborate with teams


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • May require extended hours for urgent issues or to meet established deadlines.
  • The preferred location for this position is Washington, D.C.
