Environmental Superintendent * Join a leader in mining & metals organization offering outstanding personal development & global career opportunities * Work with the latest technology and innovation, in an environment where we challenge you to drive positive change * A company with a world class reputation for safety performance and inclusion - based in Boron, CA, with responsibilities across a number of US and international operations The Opportunity We are looking for an Environmental Superintendent to oversee planning and project execution of Rio Tinto Borates and Lithium's California Operations air management, water management, waste management, land management, biodiversity and reclamation and closure programs. The role continuously interacts with regulators, non-governmental organizations, community leaders, and key California Operations personnel. The role will also partner with contractors to support the delivery of services and projects to appropriate environmental standards. Due to the extensive environmental regulations in California, the Environment Superintendent is heavily focused on ensuring appropriate and timely permitting of projects as well as maintaining license to operate for ongoing operations. This role is a great opportunity to lead the California Operations environmental team members in the development innovative project management solutions based on extensive stakeholder engagement. Reporting to the Rio Tinto Borates and Lithium Health, Safety and Environment Business Partner, you will be: * Proactively working on problems of a complex scope where evaluation of contributing factors requires the analysis of situations or data * Seeking out all resources when selecting methods and techniques for obtaining problem resolutions * Writing, reviewing, and editing technical environmental reports * Acting independently and proactively to determine and administer methods and procedures for problem resolution * Flagging potential conflicts, by addressing the concern before it becomes a problem * Overseeing a team of experts in air management, water management, waste management, land management, biodiversity and reclamation and closure * Accountable for ensuring appropriate and timely delivery of all environmental permitting requirements. * Recruit, train, mentor and develop high performing teams * Developing and implementing key productivity improvements to drive operational efficiency * A champion of our Rio Tinto Health and Safety and Environment standards and policies, ensuring regulatory standards are met About you To succeed in this role, you will have: * B.S. in Environmental Science, or equivalent program * Experience in environmental management within the mining sector, heavy industry or equivalent * A high level of communication skills including the ability to make presentations to company, public and professional groups * Extensive experience and knowledge in managing operational environmental programs * Knowledge of Californian and US environmental legislation It will also be beneficial if you have: * Leadership experience and managing various internal and external stakeholders in a complex environment. * Strong understanding of standards, policies and strategies as they relate to environmental management.
