Job Description
Discovery Life Sciences (DLS) is a trusted provider of quality biospecimens and laboratory services to hundreds of customers across the U.S. and around the world. The Research Specialist I - contributes to our mission by managing, designing and performing experiments relating to validation and qualification of Human and Animal Hepatocytes, and other tissues, Contract research, developing standard operating procedures, and preparation of technical reports. You will also be responsible for literature review, investigating and developing new methods for experimentation, and participate in scientific conferences.

Research Specialist I - requires being an outstanding scientist with excellent organizational and communication skills, with a Ph. D. degree or equivalent, and a minimum of 3 years of independent research experience

Responsibilities:

● Follow company policies and procedures, including quality, safety and/or universal precautions ● Use laboratory knowledge and expertise to identify and resolve overall laboratory daily operational needs and applications. ● Interact with all levels of internal and external sources to resolve issues or concerns ● Work to develop, coordinate and enforce systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards ● Ensure appropriate lab compliance with institutional and accrediting agency regulations as applicable ● Collaborate with Quality to ensure laboratory meets quality standards: create SOP's for laboratory operations; respond to non-conformances, develop Corrective Action/Preventative Actions ● Equipment and instrument monitoring, follow up with any issues or concerns ● Manage and perform experiments relating to validation and qualification of primary human and animal hepatocytes and other tissues ● Track work and progress using Data Management Tools ● Dispose of hazardous chemical wastes per regulatory guidelines ● Comply with all state and federal regulations as well as company and departmental rules, policies and procedural manuals ● Respect the privacy of the personal information of patients/donors, co-workers, and all individuals with whom the Company interacts ● Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to the Company and its operations

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

● PhD. Or higher

● Certifications (if applicable)

● 3 years Minimum of laboratory or bench experience in cell/molecular biology

● Keen attention to detail

● Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with Excel preferred

● Excellent verbal and written communication skills

This job is performed in a laboratory environment. The majority of the workday is spent either sitting or standing. A variety of laboratory equipment is used. The equipment used may be noisy at times. Work requires the ability to see and handle objects on a repetitive basis. Work may involve exposure to hazardous chemicals and may rarely involve contact with infectious diseases. The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including lab coats, safety glasses and gloves may be required when performing certain operations. Duties require the ability to communicate clearly with internal or external contacts, either verbally or in writing.
