Job Overview

The Technical Specialist - Climate Change & Innovation is responsible for supporting a suite of programs aimed at helping our customers in determining climate change impacts, establishing climate change policy objectives and developing mitigation options. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting carbon footprint consulting services, including standard greenhouse gas inventory and short-lived climate pollutants as well as other non-emissions contributors to climate change. You will also be responsible for validating and verifying GHG and climate pollutant mitigation projects and evaluating claims of climate neutrality. You will be tasked at completing quantitative analyses and modeling for determining GHG inventories, technical report writing, supporting technical standard writing, interacting with clients, and administrative support. You will utilize both traditional and updated climate accounting protocols while supporting the Program Manager and climate change innovation team.

Roles and Responsibilities
Technical Services
  • Conduct data analysis and modeling
  • Interpret results of analysis and prepare written reports
  • Prepare, troubleshoot, and create Excel-based tools for GHG accounting
  • Research current emission factor databases and GHG accounting best practices
  • Conduct GHG verification
  • Participate in development and implementation of technical standards relevant to this position

Client Communications
  • Engage with clients, client prospects, and networks
  • Supporting clients to scope projects, gather data, etc.
  • Present technical reports
  • Answer client questions and concerns
  • Document communications

Administrative Support
  • Ensure that assessment documentation and other client records are properly executed and maintained
  • Assist in the creation and/or maintenance of program documents
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific discipline or engineering
  • 4 year of professional experience requiring quantitative work and technical report writing, or 2 years of professional experience plus a graduate degree (e.g., Masters or PhD degree in Engineering or related sciences)
  • Extensive working knowledge and familiarity with Carbon Footprinting, Carbon Neutrality principles/ standards such as WRI GHG Protocol, ISO 14064-1, ISO 14067, IPCC, PAS 2060 and The Carbon Neutral Protocol
  • Knowledge with GHG Verification process and standards such as ISO 14064-3
  • Working knowledge with Carbon Offsets
  • Experience working with quantitative data and database systems
  • Experience with GHG calculation tools utilizing Tableau and Power BI dashboard designs
  • Diverse industry experience (e.g., food and beverage, apparel, textiles, retail)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with standard business software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge or familiarity with Life Cycle Analysis and LCA Standards
  • Master's degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of Science Based Targets
  • Scientific knowledge of climate science
  • Knowledge in Python
  • Experience with GHG reporting under leading GHG reporting programs such as CDP and TCR


Physical Requirements
  • This job requires travel (predominately US & Canada) ~ 60% of the time.
  • This is an office-based job ~ 40% of the time
  • Sit 6+ hours per day. Keyboarding 6+ hours per day
  • Must be able to speak and listen to employees and vendors in person and via online video conference call applications
