Job Description
The Safety and Environmental Health Specialist shall provide professional, technical, and management support services for Safety and environmental administrative, scientific/engineering analysis and studies, technical data support, and data management support. These services are in support of a wide variety of environmental and safety programs, as well as overall support services performed in support of tasks. Personnel shall plan for, facilitate, and assist with various technical and management support services for Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH).
The position requires knowledge, experience and capability to perform the following:
The Safety and Environmental Health Specialist shall provide professional, technical, and management support services for Safety and environmental administrative, scientific/engineering analysis and studies, technical data support, and data management support. These services are in support of a wide variety of environmental and safety programs, as well as overall support services performed in support of tasks. Personnel shall plan for, facilitate, and assist with various technical and management support services for Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH).
The position requires knowledge, experience and capability to perform the following:
- Develop and execute an Environmental and Safety inspection plan for all occupied facilities and workspaces. This task includes developing an ESH inspection protocol, preparing an annual ESH inspection schedule, coordinating the schedule with appropriate facility supervisors, conducting the inspections relative to all applicable ESH regulations, document the deficiencies, and recommended corrective actions in ESAMS (Enterprise Safety Application Management System), and tracking deficiencies to closure. Access to classified and secure workspaces will require advanced notification, coordination and approval by the appropriate supervisor of the classified and secured areas.
- The ESH Specialist shall track and trend all data related to ESH inspections and prepare monthly reports. Reports shall contain data and metrics using data from ESAMS, including open deficiencies by type, Department, and risk assessment code (RAC), medical surveillance, and mishaps (recordable and nonrecordable). The analyses should include developing graphs, identifying trends, and forecasting problems using various electronic means (including but not limited to Microsoft Office program such as Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.)
- The ESH Specialist shall provide both physical and written inspection reports to management regarding safety walkthroughs. These reports are expected to articulate and convey the need for changes in regards to safety and solutions to effectively mitigate any deficiencies.
