Job Description
Rochester Midland Corporation is looking for an experienced Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist for its Montgomery Illinois facility, as well as, providing support for the Ogden NY facility. This is a hybrid role - the candidate will need to be onsite at the Montgomery facility when required.

The Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for maintaining the health and safety of the plant workforce and environment by monitoring and evaluating health and safety conditions; assuring compliance with applicable policies, procedure, and governmental standards; and maintenance of the EHS Programs for the site. The primary objective is to ensure a safe and incident-free work environment including methodologies, initiatives and strategies that promote safe operations, safety awareness, training, and continuous improvement to eliminate or control unsafe behaviors, environments, and hazards. The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist will also be responsible for administration of corporate product compliance to meet all applicable Federal, State, and global requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Coordinate/conduct safety and compliance training as needed
  • National Sanitation Foundation (NSF), Kosher, Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) and Halal Certification Management including audits, verification of required logos and other required markings
  • Point person for compliance related audits or inspections at the Montgomery, IL facility to include Occupational Safety & Health Act (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), or other local compliance
  • Product regulatory compliance, including state pesticide registrations, pesticide applicator, label/SDS and global regulatory
  • Liaison between employees and Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Manager and/or Human Resources regarding safety related needs

EDUCATION/ SPECIAL LICENSES OR CERTIFICATION:
  • B.S. or B.A. in a technical or organizational field
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM) or other safety certification preferred

EXPERIENCE:
  • 5 years performing technical duties in an Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) environment
  • Experience in coordinating Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) activities in a manufacturing setting preferred
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations regarding Occupational Safety & Health Act (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and other U.S. requirements. Canadian Regulatory experience is considered beneficial
  • Previous experience with an ERP system is helpful, Great Plains (GP) and Vicinity experience is a plus
  • Supervisory background is helpful

SKILLS:
  • Highly knowledgeable in all aspects of regulatory laws, statutes, reporting requirements for Federal, State, and local authorities
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to understand and interpret written material, including technical information, rules, regulations, executive orders, and laws.
  • Function as back-up to Plant Management as needed for Vacation and/or sick days
  • Good administrative, analytical, organizational, planning, problem-solving and training skills are required. Multi-tasking and capability to work well under stress is necessary.
  • Experience with Microsoft software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with data collection and presentation
  • Bilingual ability (Spanish speaking preferred)
