Marine Environmental Controls Manager

Seeking an Environmental Controls Manager to work in a highly specialized maritime environment.

o Minimum of 5 years' experience in the field of environmental health with experience waste water and Hazwaste management
o Certification/Licensure- Preferred: Registered Environmental Health Specialists, Certified

• Must be knowledgeable and have experience with OSHA Safety Standards and OSHA Maritime
Safety Standards and with California Health and Safety Code Sections 25110-25124.
• Must be familiar with and understand basic operational capacity of large, heavy, industrial
equipment and specifically, the exact uses for such equipment to ensure employees in the yard
are safely using the equipment.
• Must be able to interface with project managers/supervisors and top management to
implement permit requirements and supporting procedures.
• Must be very organized and able to keep accurate records and correspondence.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel spreadsheet development and other applicable
software.
OVERVIEW:
• Interpret environmental regulations and assess regulatory changes to determine their
impact on facility operations.
• Ensure that hazardous waste is mitigated, destined for, lawfully transported, and delivered to,
an authorized hazardous waste facility.
• Prevent releases of hazardous waste or constituents to the environment during the active or
post period of facility operations.
• Ensure early detection of releases of hazardous waste or constituents.
• Ensure adequate resources are available in the case of releases of hazardous waste or
constituents.
• Ensure personnel are trained to perform emergency cleanup operations of, or other appropriate
corrective actions for releases is managed.
AUTHORITY:
• The Permits Coordinator has authority to capture, communicate, and report results and
recommend solutions.
• Prepare all supporting documentation.
• Supervise 1-3 field technicians.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
• The Permits Coordinator is hired by and reports to the Executive VP.
PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES:
Body Positions: Standing, sitting, walking, climbing, crouching, and stooping.
Body Movements: Carrying up to 25 pounds, use of hands, vision, arms, and voice.

employee is frequently required to sight activities, hear, and talk on the phone or radio, use a computer,
lift heavy weights, and climb stairs or ladders.
JOB DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Prevent releases of hazardous waste or constituents to the environment during the active or post period
of facility operations.
• Coordinate and oversee the Permits Program including the following:
• Responsible for company compliance with ALL- local, state, and federal Health & Safety
Code, regulations, and procedures.
• Regulatory Agency Interface: Communicate with all regulatory agencies and provided
inspection / audit management.
• Responsible for all record keeping and periodic reporting requirements.
• Responsible for keeping current copies of all Environmental and Health regulatory guide
materials and notifying management of any issues with compliance.
• Schedule and work with Production Management and Safety Department technicians and
trainees.
• Responsible to convey requirements to subcontractors, visitors, and customers.
• Design and implement training, orientations, inspections, and investigations.
• Train employees on safe use of equipment to mitigate environmental impacts and in safe
marine practices.
• Maintain all records and documentation including all training, certifications, inspections,
mishaps, etc.
• Conduct inspections of job site and equipment, to identify hazards and recommend
corrective action to prevent recurrence and reduce accidents and claims.
• Implement corrective action in addition to ensuring all corrective action reports are drafted
and maintained.
• Responsible for all internal investigations and reporting.
• Interact with senior management to ensure best management practices are being
implemented and followed in yard.
• Perform physical labor associated with site maintenance activities, sample collection, waste
removal and other services (e.g. forklift qualification may be required)
• Sample collection and analysis (solids (grit), stormwater, wastewater, air, building
materials)
• Collect data and prepare reports and or logs for submission to management.

• Maintain onsite pollution prevention controls. Ensuring containers are properly labeled and
secondary containment is in place.
• Manage emergency response incidents.
• Support the Incident Command System in a leadership role.
• Assist with purchasing guidelines for the PPE Equipment.
• Participate in safety committee activities and meetings.
