Senior Manager, Resilient Fisheries, West Coast LOCATIONThis position can be performed 100% remotely or out of EDF's San Francisco, CA office on a hybrid arrangement. One of the greatest threats to the oceans is overfishing, which is why our dedicated team of scientists, economists, and fishery management experts are collaborating with partners around the globe to make sustainable fishing the norm. Through our work in the U.S., Latin America, and Asia Pacific, we draw on strong science and economic principles to advance sustainable fishing practices, forward-looking policies, and innovative tools that support the health of our oceans and the people who depend on them for food and their livelihoods. OVERALL FUNCTIONThe Senior Manager, Resilient Fisheries will play a key role in advancing solutions for sustainable, profitable and resilient fisheries and fishing communities, with a focus on the U.S. West coast. They will collaborate internally across EDF and externally with diverse stakeholders, policymakers, community leaders, and scientists to co-develop strategies for climate resilience. Specifically, this individual will be responsible for identifying, building and managing relationships with key stakeholders, planning and facilitating outreach and exchanges with key partners, leading resilience-related advocacy efforts, and identifying new opportunities. This individual will conduct research on key topics related to fisheries and oceans science, management, climate mitigation, adaptation and resilience and communicate relevant findings, best practices, and emerging research with teams across EDF. This position will be an excellent opportunity to use policy insights, analytical and communications skills, and a collaborative spirit to advance the concept of climate resilience in meaningful ways. The S.enior Manager will also develop and execute key pieces of EDF's strategy to advance climate resilient fisheries and communities along the West Coast, including efforts to modernize fisheries data management and increase the uptake of electronic technologies and build community resilience. This individual will work under the direction of the Senior Director, Resilient Fisheries within a global Fisheries and Oceans team that sits in the larger People and Nature team. KEY RESPONSIBILITIESDevelop and implement strategies to advance policy and projects in support of resilience goals in partnership with Program leadership, team members across EDF, consultants, partner organizations, and others with particular attention to the U.S. West CoastWork across EDF with relevant internal stakeholders to research and develop innovative science and policy solutions for achieving climate resilient fisheries and support the design and development of policy, science, and technological solutions for building climate resilient fisheries and communitiesDevelop strategies and engage partners to advance key priorities within regional fishery management councils and at the State level, as appropriate; track issues and identify opportunities related to EDF priorities, including climate resilience and electronic technologies, at the Pacific and North Pacific regional fishery management councilsOversee EDF's efforts to advance uptake of electronic technologies, data modernization, and other technologies to bolster better, more effective, real-time management of US fisheries. Execute in the US West coast and at the national levelConduct stakeholder outreach, build relationships, and manage strategic partnerships with relevant policymakers, fishing leaders, scientists, and other stakeholders with the goal of working collaboratively to identify and implement strategies to address climate impacts to fisheries and fishing communities; Plan and host meetings, workshops, briefings, and other convenings in support of climate resilience for fisheries and communitiesEngage in key aspects of EDF's fisheries/oceans national policy portfolio including advocacy efforts at the national, regional, and congressional levels (e.g., meetings, fly-ins etc. between key stakeholders, fisheries leaders, and congressional champions)Manage key consultants and relationships to achieve EDF's goals in target regions.Engage the media to advance project objectives and communicate project results to a broad array of audiences; Develop reports, guidance documents, comment letters, blogs, and other communications materials as part of advocacy effortsConduct research on climate resilience fisheries issues and document research findings in reports, case studies, and other communications and training materialsParticipate in advancing EDF's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values; Meaningfully incorporate principles of equity into EDF policy recommendations and stakeholder engagementServe as EDF's representative in external settings such as conferences, workshops and other venues QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree in Marine Science, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Political Science or another related field; Advanced degree preferred.At least eight (8) years of relevant experience in fisheries and oceans science and management, or an advanced degree with six (6) or more years of direct experienceDeep knowledge in fisheries science, policy, and management required, experience working on issues related to fisheries/oceans technologies and climate adaptation/mitigation/resilience, and working knowledge of the national policy landscape for fisheries/oceans issuesInterest in building climate resilient fisheries and communities. Experience working with diverse stakeholders to craft and deliver lasting solutionsDemonstrated ability to engage US regional fishery management councils, NOAA Fisheries and other relevant regulatory bodiesAbility to develop and oversee projects from inception to completion; experience in project management and exceptional personal organization and attention to detailAbility to work on multiple projects concurrently, both independently and as a member of small teams in a dynamic and creative environment; meeting deadlines and responding quickly to changing opportunitiesStrong analytical skills and experience performing rigorous analysis in support of highly visible workExcellent written and public speaking skills with the ability to communicate complex information to diverse audiencesDemonstrated ability to forge collaborations and work in effective partnerships with nonprofit colleagues, scientists, economists, industry, policymakers, etc.Exceptional problem solver who is adaptive and takes personal initiative to identify and resolve problemsProficiency in the use of PCs and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)Demonstrated self-awareness, cultural competency, and inclusivity and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgroundsAbility to travel (largely domestically) as neededCommitment to the mission of Environmental Defense Fund
