Responsibilities
Director, Donor Engagement and Events Department and Location:This position is part of the Donor Engagement and Events team within EDF's Development Department. This position can work from EDF's New York or San Francisco offices and can work remotely up to 3 days per week. Overall FunctionReporting to the Senior Director, Donor Engagement and Events, the Director, Donor Engagement and Events oversees all logistical planning related to the EDF and EDF Action Board of Trustees meetings. The Director will also serve as the lead staff person managing the engagement of Environmental Leaders, an existing, highly targeted group of emerging philanthropists and volunteers and those in their networks. The Director will also oversee the design and execution of a number of donor events annually. Key ResponsibilitiesLead the management of the Environmental Leaders affinity group, including building relationships with individual members, developing an annual calendar of meetings and events in consultation with program staff and core group members, managing the recruitment of additional core group members, creating monthly e-mail updates, and expanding the impact of the group.Develop a multi-year strategic plan for Environmental Leaders group expansion and building engagement strategies for the extended networks of core group members; develop a nominating and recruiting process for new members.Together with Senior Specialist and Development Coordinator, organize events hosted by core Environmental Leaders members.In partnership with the Senior Manager, Donor Engagement and Events, execute a system for tracking the impact of EDF donor events and the Environmental Leaders' impact on EDF's program work, leadership pipeline development, and fundraising goals.In close partnership with the Board Relations team, Executive Office, and IT teams, oversee the planning for three EDF and EDF Action Board of Trustees meetings per year including invitations, venue and catering sourcing and contracting, budgeting, transportation, optional activities, advising on program, content and speakers, development of materials, and coordination of all visual and technology needs. Coordinate planning for symposiums, high-profile dinner programs, and field trips offered in conjunction with EDF and EDF Action Board of Trustee meetings.Directly supervise a Senior Specialist, Donor Engagement and Events.In partnership with Marketing and Communications team, lead the internal and external planning and coordination of high-level event series including Chairman's Dinner series, NYC Climate Week, Climate Tech Convenings and UN conferences. Working in partnership with donor managers, develop tailored engagement ideas that support donor strategies and Development department goals.Ensure all donor information is accurately stored on shared drives and in Salesforce for Board meetings, individual donor events and Environmental Leaders engagements.Lead and/or support the planning of virtual and in-person donor events as needed. Stay up to date on latest trends and best practices in donor engagement and event planning.Participates in advancing EDF DEI goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.Additional responsibilities as assigned. QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's Degree and 10 years of major gifts, event planning and/or volunteer management experience.Highly adaptable, able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment and manage multiple projects with overlapping deadlines at one time.Experienced self-starter, with exceptional attention to detail, well- organized and able to plan and execute meetings and events from conception to completion with minimal guidance.Prior experience effectively managing and coaching full-time junior staff.Proven ability to creatively bring programmatic and at times technical work to life.Skilled in highly effective written and verbal communication.Able to demonstrate good judgment and discretion, and the ability to successfully interact with and manage donors, Trustees, guest speakers and staff at all levels of the organization.Expertise in donor engagement and relationship management with high net-worth donors. Experience working with donors in their 20s - 40s and affinity groups a plus.Willingness to travel domestically and internationally. At times, extended work hours, weekend travel will be required.Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, C-Vent, and Salesforce.Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds. USD $142,000.00/Yr.
