Purpose:
The ideal candidate will have a passion and inquisitiveness for ensuring foods are safe and wholesome. The Microbiology Analyst 1 is a results orientated person that produces high quality defensible analytical data, safely and on time in our ISO Accredited Food Microbiology laboratory. The Analyst I performs sample preparation and sample set up for both quantitative and qualitative microbiology workflows. This position will grow to gain full knowledge to performing food microbiological procedures to include indicator organisms and rapid PCR assays.

Summary :

* Performs basic / advanced sample preparation. Samples in a food micro laboratory might include food ingredients, ready to eat foods, pet food, agricultural products such as grains and legumes.
* Performs basic microbiological analysis to include indicator organisms such as Aerobic Colony Count, Coliforms, E.coli, Staphylococcus, Yeast and Mold.
* Gains full knowledge of various microbiological techniques such as petrifilm and plating methods.
* Gains full knowledge to performing rapid pathogen analysis to include PCR assays for Salmonella, Listeria and E.coli 0157:H7.

Qualifications :

* Experience in a Laboratory Technician role.

Skills :

* Accurately follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs).
* Has, or ability to learn, good laboratory aseptic technique
* Math skills to understand dilution factors when plating and reading

Attributes :

* Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
* Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills.
* Works both independently and as part of a team.
* Detail orientated and record keeping skills.
* Learns quickly.
* Adapts to a changing environment.

Computer Skills :

* Excellent computer skills.
* Basic understanding of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

Education:

* B.Sc. in a Science related discipline. Other degrees may be acceptable depending on the amount of direct laboratory experience.
