Do you want to make a material impact in the fight against climate change?

Are you excited by the potential of large-scale carbon removal?

If so, Captura is seeking a Director, Measurement, Reporting & Verification to join our XPRIZE Milestone Award winning team.

Developed and proven in Caltech's laboratories, Captura uses established electrochemical concepts to enable gigatonne-scalable solutions for removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere via direct ocean capture.

We capture carbon dioxide using only renewable electricity and ocean water, producing no by-products. Captura's mission is globally scalable carbon removal to support a sustainable future for the world's climate.

The Director, Measurement, Reporting & Verification will lead the Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) of Captura's oceanic CO2 removal approach. You will work with various carbon crediting agencies, ocean scientists and ocean health groups and will be responsible for the design and implementation of Captura's MRV strategies as well as being responsible for assessing and mitigating any impact that Captura's process may have on ocean health. You will interface with investors, customers and policy makers and communicate Captura's MRV and Ocean Health methodologies.

This position is based at Pasadena, CA.

Roles & Responsibilities

* Adapt and implement existing ocean circulation model, carbon cycle model, marine carbonate system model and others to model and simulate Captura's atmospheric CO2 draw-down via direct ocean capture
* Design and implement Captura's MRV strategies
* Working with the ocean health community, assess any impact of Captura's process and propose mitigation strategies where needed
* Design and develop site and scale specific ocean models to support Captura's large scale plant design and deployment
* Communicate and interface with partners, crediting agencies, investors and policy makers on Captura's MRV approach
* Foster collaboration and work with others in the ocean-based carbon removal community

Prior Experience & Professional Qualities

* PhD in Oceanography or related field of study
* Strong analytical skills and first principal understanding of oceanwater physics and chemistry
* Hands-on experience and strong expertise in ocean circulation model, carbon cycle model and marine carbonate chemistry.
* Familiar with oceanwater measurement techniques
* Effective communicator to both scientific and non-scientific audiences
* Highly motivated to work in climate tech and the emerging CO2 capture industry in an early-stage commercial environment.
