Overview / Responsibilities
The Technical Business Manager is responsible to the Director of CFR. The role works in conjunction with the CFR Business Services Manager, and all levels of Consultants within the CFR Business are responsible to the Technical Business Manager.
The Technical Business Manager, in conjunction with the Director of CFR, is accountable for the delivery of all contracts within the CFR business. The Technical Business Manager is responsible for the management of the business, ensuring that studies and projects are resourced with the correct quality and quantity of personnel to deliver work to the highest of standard. The Technical Business Manager will lead business development activities and is responsible for winning work for the CFR business, in parallel acting as a focal point any client requests at a senior level.
Initially support the CFR Direct to set up and develop a structured business. This will be through formal a business plan that provides a comprehensive carbon accounting and carbon footprint reduction consulting service to several industries including oil and gas, mining and so on.
Support the CFR Director as part of business set up to develop a mission and vision for the business and build a short-, mid- and long-term strategy.
Winning Work / Client Engagement / BD Activities
Lead business development activities and be responsible for winning work for the CFR business. This includes communicating with, and building sound and credible relationships with clients, up to Chief Financial Officer level, to expand the reach of the business and exploit opportunities.
Responsible for the implementation of prospect tracking and prospect win planning
Support the development of proposals.
Support the development of marketing strategies presenting them to internal and external stakeholders.
Responsible for the development of a database which includes all submitted proposals and delivered studies / projects by CFR for future reference.
Support the CFR Director in forward looking business forecasting.
Interface with the wider Wood business and establish collaborative partnerships to maximise on pull-through business opportunities.
Maintain and enhance CFRs reputation and build successful working relationship with clients / customers.
Act as a focal point with significant involvement and a "hands-on approach" when studies / projects are being set up as per CFR Standards and Procedures.
Lead delivery and management of studies / projects within the CFR business in accordance with CFR processes and procedures. It must be ensured project(s) are delivered safely, within schedule and budget.
Create and manage study / project teams as required. Support the study / project team in their roles.
Direct personnel responsible for the delivery of studies / project to ensure clear goals are set so that all study / project personnel are aligned to study / project requirements
Interface with the CFR team and the wider Wood to make sure that when studies / projects are set up, they are resourced properly and with the right people at the right time.
Interface with Clients as required on studies / projects.
Report and present study / project performance to both Client, CFR and Wood management with respect to safety performance, progress, cost containment and schedule.
Participate in key study / project client reviews and meetings as required.
Receive and distribute all relevant communications, with adequate guidance where action by others is required.
Develop, agree and deliver study / project KPI's, ensuring optimum financial return to CFR.
Ensure that all work complies with the Client and CFR health, safety, security, environmental and quality policies and procedures.
Look for opportunities to improve the profit margin of the studies / projects.
Coordinate and support development of market analysis, including presentation material for various audiences including internal and external executive management.
Maintain knowledge and understanding of emerging market trends and industry developments and establish new offerings to meet client needs.
Support the development of new ideas and identify opportunities to expand the business and drive increased revenue, and profit.
Support the CFR Director build a positive organisational culture based on trust and respect.
Support the CFR Director provide opportunities for personal development and encourage and welcome fresh ideas.
Support the CFR Director in the recruitment of CFR personnel.
Responsible for mentoring and progressing of CFR staff.
Lead educating the wider Wood on the capabilities of CFR, this may include presentations to management and other parts of Wood that have any interest in the business and its capabilities.
Work together with the Business Services Manager to ensure all functional attributes, commercial, finance and so on are operating efficiently.
Perform any other duties associated with this position as may be appropriate.
Skills / Qualifications
Desired Knowledge / Experience
Knowledge of Financial Market requirements for carbon accounting and CFR and inter-related sustainable development issues.
An understanding of the concepts, principles and practices employed in the field of carbon accounting.
Knowledge of the current issues important for carbon emission reduction and an understanding of the current and future challenges facing policy makers and industry.
Experience in a corporate management environment.
Experience in the formulation of effective business strategies and organisational frameworks.
Experience in constructing, leading, and motivating a team of professionals to a high level of achievement.
Experience in demonstrating a client focused attitude to work scopes
Proven ability to plan and organize work scopes. Included delivery scopes which adhere to schedule and cost.
