Under general direction provide timely diagnostic pathology services, including necropsy and histopathology, as required for mammalian and avian specimens with emphasis on disease diagnosis. Provide consultation, advice and guidance to veterinarians and producers regarding equine, livestock, avian and wildlife disease diagnosis, control and prevention.
RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.
Budgeted Salary Range:
Initial placement will be between $105,000-$118,650/annually, commensurate with educational background and relevant working experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Be able to perform repetitive motions; cutting. Must wear laboratory required/supplied PPE and participate in Health Surveillance Program.
This position is subject to prophylactic vaccination for rabies, as well as medical surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy.
Tolerate strong odors and the sight of exposed animal tissues and blood products, and to handle/dispose of infectious materials.
May, at times, work with or be in areas where biohazardous and chemical materials and infectious diseases are present. Specific hazards of the position are, but are not limited to salmonella, Listeria, E. coli, Campylobacter, formalin and other chemicals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is not a research position. The position is located in a diagnostic laboratory where quality control and assurance as well as meticulous working habits are essential.
This position is a critical position and is subject to a background check and required to pass FBI clearance for select agent authorization.
Per the terms and agreements of the department's contracts and grants, the position requires signing of a Confidentiality Agreement or Non-Disclosure Agreement regarding testing and client information.
This position is subject to Vaccination Program (Influenza, SARS-CoV-2, might subject to prophylactic vaccination for rabies), and Medical/Health Surveillance Program/Procedures/Review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy.
This position is not eligible for remote work, due to the nature of the essential responsibilities.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pm (Work schedule might be slightly different during the training period).
Flexible necropsy work duties; flexible necropsy schedule and assist colleagues and/or faculty with caseloads.
Restricted/Limited vacation during peak workload periods (i.e. Outbreaks, Fiscal Close, Audit Periods, etc.).
Work occasional evenings/weekends and share regular weekend/holiday coverage. Exempt employees do not receive overtime compensation or compensatory time off, or additional compensation beyond the established salary for the position.
Ability to travel, i.e. to CAHFS branch laboratories as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
DVM or equivalent from an AVMA-accredited or equivalent institution.
Board certification or eligibility for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) or European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP) required. If not ACVP certified, board certification will be required within three years of the date of initial hire.
Skill operating microscopes, necropsy equipment (e.g., mechanical hoist, bandsaw, Stryker saw, incinerator, surgical & necropsy instruments), computer, laboratory equipment (e.g., biosafety cabinet, pH meters, electronic scales).
Knowledge and skills to apply existing theory and research findings to define unusual and complex problems, handle sensitive inquiries and confidentiality with animal owners and veterinarians.
Ability to respond appropriately in emergency duties, e.g. suspected foreign animal diseases or diseases that impact public health.
Knowledge and skills to dispose of hazardous and contaminated materials in a safe manner and in accordance with campus and EH&S policies and procedures.
Interpersonal skills to interact with a wide variety of individuals including co-workers, clients of CAHFS, and other University units, outside and government agencies.
Skills in computer data entry and related software applications.
Preferred:
Veterinary diagnostic pathology experience.
Familiarity with all aspects of the quality system documentation and implementing, complying with them in daily work. This includes the Quality Manual, System wide Documents and local policies and procedures.
