Position Overview
The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting the implementation of the Exact Sciences EHS Program. The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist will support both Exact Sciences Corporate and Laboratories including creation and implementation of policies, procedures, training and monitoring workplace practices and activities with leadership oversight to ensure that employees abide by company policies and government safety regulations. The position ensures laboratory compliance with Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), College of American Pathologists (CAP) and other Federal, State and Local agencies as necessary.

This position will be located in Baltimore, MD with frequent travel to Cambridge, MA and other Exact Sciences locations.

Essential Duties
Include but are not limited to the following:

* Oversee the coordination of emergency response (evacuation, hazardous material release, etc.) efforts, and conduct EHS drills and trainings.
* Oversee the maintenance of emergency and first aid supplies.
* Maintain, implement, track, and update Exact Sciences EHS policies/programs/procedures, as necessary, and develop new programs, as required.
* Ensure compliance with Local, State, and Federal EHS regulations, as well as Exact Sciences safety standards and corporate policies.
* Apply for and maintain applicable permits, as needed.
* Assist with coordinating ergonomic evaluations, performing assessments, and providing recommendations and adjustments, as necessary.
* Develop and implement facility-wide policies, procedures, and EHS training programs, with leadership guidance, to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards on a federal, state, and local basis.
* Create and review Job Safety Analysis (JSA) with cross-functional groups.
* Coordinate and participate in annual risk assessments.
* Lead and/or support the EHS Safety Committees.
* Support daily EHS audits, incident investigations, corrective action follow-up, and other activities.
* Perform quarterly, annual, and periodic safety audits with Operations assistance; to include fire and electrical safety, ergonomics, chemical hygiene, general housekeeping, waste management, hazardous waste storage, personal protective equipment (PPE), and infection prevention.
* Help oversee chemical inventory and acquisition, obtain safety data sheets (SDSs), as needed, and ensure compliance with regulations regarding usage and storage.
* Coordinate and administer new employee and annual safety training; including biological, chemical, general, and physical protection in laboratories, hazardous materials, PPE, and bloodborne pathogens (BBP) exposure.
* Coordinate fire drills for all shifts throughout the year.
* Provide technical expertise in regards to completing risk assessment activities to minimize EHS related risk (e.g., PPE Risk Assessment, Industrial Hygiene (IH) Risk Assessment, Ergonomic Risk Assessment, Site Risk Assessment) to the organization.
* Monitor completion of required tasks of fire extinguisher inspections, lab permit/registration renewals, injury and illness reporting, and regulatory filings and act to complete in a timely manner.
* Oversee hazardous and infectious waste disposal program.
* Work across disciplines with EHS team members to oversee the safety activities of all laboratories, laboratory personnel, contractors, and support staff; communicate to appropriate Management when risks are observed, corrected, or in need of further management emphasis.
* Maintain proficiency in regulations, standards, guidelines, and trends in laboratory safety and environmental health and safety; anticipate and evaluate their impact and communicate requirements to employees and management.
* Assist in air quality, noise, biological, toxic, and other hazard sampling.

* Ability to work on a computer and phone simultaneously.
* Ability to use a telephone through a headset.
* Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
* Ability to work with hazardous or flammable materials so as not to endanger oneself or others.
* Ability to travel up to 25% of working time away from primary work location to Cambridge, MA and other Exact Sciences locations, may include overnight/weekend travel.

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Occupational, Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or related field; or Associates degree in Occupational, Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or related field and 2 years of relevant experience in lieu of bachelor's degree.
* 2+ years of EHS or relevant experience.
* 2+ years of experience with one or more of the following relevant regulations: BAAQMD, OSHA, CAP, FDA, CLIA.
* Proficient computer skills to include Internet navigation, Email usage, and word processing.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office.
* Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
* Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

* 2+ years of experience in a clinical laboratory.
* Experience in an EHS role during a period of rapid business growth.
* Professional working knowledge with creating and implementing new processes or procedures to various employee groups.
* Professional working knowledge in seeing projects through from initiation to implementation and follow-up.
* Professional working knowledge with ISO14001, ISO45001, and OHSAS 18001 standards.
* First aid/AED/CPR certification.
* Department of Transportation (DOT) certification.
* RCRA certification.
* 40hr HAZWOPER Certification.
