Job Description

Role purpose

* Drive, develop and implement strategies for the Climate and weather domains that accelerates data collection to enhance Seeds product placement. Design and operate smart sensor systems from proof-of-concept to scale to drive analytics workflows and support data-driven seeds placement decision-making using digital monitoring data.
* Leveraging your experience in in agriculture and environmental science, you will translate sensor and weather service data into insights/
* Drive sensor and technology selection process to choose the strategic solution that delivers data at scale. Lead delivery of weather and climate projects to serve scientific needs of our analytics and data science teams.



Leadership & Technology Expertise

* Lead the discovery and implementation of digital environmental monitoring technology strategies and projects in close interaction with analytics and data science departments through implementation and deployment of automated sensor-based environment monitoring systems for soil and weather.
* Integrate and optimize technology development in interaction with Software product development team.
* Closely interact with Plant Breeders, Data Science, IT, and Operations to understand the agriculture research domain to constantly convert high impact business objectives to solutions.
* Be an active member of any relevant global network of experts, common interest groups with relevant functions to coordinate key technology advancements and promote sharing of best practice while continue to drive standardization for machinery and other equipment.
* Manage delivery of data into the organization's data repository leveraging modern cloud technologies.
* Integrate sensor data coming from different sensor sources and databases (descriptive analysis)

Critical success factors & key challenges

* Ability to perform and to support complex projects and effectively input expertise interdisciplinary teams to accomplish project goals.
* Ability to work with Subject matter experts and business teams to translate requirements into solutions.
* Ability to communicate effectively internally to the project teams in relation to the initiatives & projects.

Critical knowledge

* Education in earth science, atmospheric science, meteorology, engineering, or agriculture. Masters preferred.
* Working knowledge of processes involved in a Research or Breeding environment would be beneficial
* In-depth knowledge of design and deployment of environmental sensing systems in both open fields and glasshouses
* Appreciation of the value in data - experience in agricultural monitoring to make scientific or business decisions
* Sound understating of plant phenotyping, Sensor Analytics, GIS environments would all be beneficial

Critical Experience

* Extensive experience in leading, architecting and operationalizing solutions that addresses agricultural environment problems or use cases.
* Working experience in delivery, development and implementation, of environment sensors that supports data collection for agriculture or agricultural research organization.
* Experience in descriptive analytics and basic statistics for life science datasets
* Experience of working with third party specialist companies/contract management experience
* Demonstrated experience and skills in managing projects and stakeholders in a large matrix organization.
* Experience of R&D workflows and operations
