Scientist, Synthetic Biology - Future Technologies

CATALOG is a well-funded, rapidly expanding, Boston-based startup on a mission to preserve and compute on the world's most valuable data. We are growing our team to build CATALOG's DNA-based data storage and computation platform. We are looking for a motivated Scientist with a background in synthetic biology to join our interdisciplinary team of biologists, engineers, and computer scientists to design novel storage and computing architectures and translate them into scalable read/write operations. As part of the newly established Future Technologies group, you will help to build and evaluate novel synthetic biology strategies that help realize the world's first DNA storage and computing platform.

What you will do:
· Developing and validating new DNA-based assays at the bench

* Optimizing and improving novel methods to synthesize, sort, modify and read DNA
* Benchmarking new technologies by translating bench protocols to fully automated solutions at scale
* Evaluating new technology capabilities in a data-driven way
* Collaborating with hardware and software teams to implement new technologies into the end-to-end platform
* Analyzing data, presenting findings, and making recommendations to internal and external stakeholders
* Continuously assessing current literature for innovation opportunities

Required soft skills:

* Dependable team player with strong verbal and written communication skills

Ideal background:

* Ph.D. or M.S. in synthetic biology, bioengineering, biophysics, biochemistry, or a related field
* Demonstrated experience in technology development with ambitious timelines and deliverables
* Expertise in synthetic biology techniques for nucleic acid manipulation, purification, or sequencing is a must
* Experience with long-read, solid-state, and/or protein sequencing is preferred

· Familiarity with lab automation, software engineering, and computer science, though not required, is a plus
