This position collaborates with a cross functional team to develop new analytical instrumentation and microbiological methods. In this role, you will lead a team of microbiologists developing analytical methods and technologies, testing instrumentation, and evaluating concepts as part of new product development and customer application projects. This position provides technical expertise for aseptic processing and microbiological testing, executes studies to support customer applications and new product development, works to establish best practices and processes for lab operations, helps develop new capabilities and testing capacity, and continuously improves upon compliance to meet the needs of customers in highly regulated industries.

This exciting role within Analytical Instruments' microbiology Center of Excellence guides a team of scientists working to ensure success of novel rapid microbiological monitoring (RMM) methods. You will be able apply your experiences in regulated microbiology laboratories to assist customers in exploring new applications while also supporting the product development teams in testing new technologies. You will be able to build new processes and capabilities as the group and product adoption expands.

Duties & Responsibilities

* Supervisor, lead, mentor, and support performance and development for microbiology researchers
* Support and execute method development studies employing rapid microbiological monitoring analyzers applied to water samples, raw materials, in process samples, and other challenging matrices
* Continually assess development systems and procedures in the laboratory to assure they comply with business directives and current industry practices
* Liaise between customers, microbiology researchers, and analyzer subject matter experts to provide recommendations for equipment use
* Research, evaluate, and contribute ideas for new technologies, reagents and methods supporting the RMM mission

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

* Skilled with aseptic practices for bacterial or cell culture processes
* Ability to provide technical leadership to solve complex problems as well as execute studies on your own
* Ability to be organized and self-directed
* Detail oriented with a focus on delivering quality results
* Ability to fluently and clearly write lab notebooks, test plans, and reports

Education & Experience
Required :

* BS in microbiology
* Five or more years of microbiological laboratory work experience with increasing responsibility

Preferred :

* MS or PhD in microbiology
* Prior supervisory experience
* Knowledge of pharmaceutical, personal care, and/or clinical microbiology
* Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
* Proven track record of success in microbiological quality control or development laboratories

Working Conditions

* Laboratory work environment with 4-5 days per week expected in person
