Role Summary - The successful candidate will provide leadership in communicating technical concepts, testing results, business goals, programs, and processes for the Customer Analytical Services Laboratory's Microbiological Services. In this role you will utilize your experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals. You will also embrace safety and environmental policies and procedures. This position is assigned to work on site at the Tomball, TX site.

Key Responsibilities

* Perform routine microbiological testing, characterization, and interpretation of industrial water and wastewater samples
* Perform routine microbiological testing and characterization of industrial deposits associated with biocorrosion, biofouling, biofilms, and other Microbial Influenced Corrosion (MIC) related organisms.
* Support technical projects through design, analysis, and/or evaluation using sound microbiological / molecular biology-based principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program requirements
* Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting assigned projects
* Initiate communications with internal technical and commercial customers clarifying project goals, prioritization, progress, and conclusions
* Document technical data generated for the assigned project consistent with Quality policies and procedures
* Serve as a technical resource for a variety of functional areas in the Laboratory and Business
* Contribute to the site safety efforts through adherence of policies and recommendations

Core Qualifications

* B.S. in Biology, Environmental Engineering, or relevant scientific field
* 3+ years of experience in the use of phase contrast, brightfield, and/or epifluorescence microscopes
* 3+ years of experience in utilization of molecular biology techniques such as Fluorescence in Situ Hybridization, Polymerase Chain Reaction techniques
* 3+ years of experience in a laboratory setting
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
* Understanding of Wastewater and Industrial systems and the relevant analytical techniques to monitor performance from a microbiological perspective
* Strong technical understanding of microscopy, molecular biology, and culture-based techniques to identify microorganisms in water, wastewater, and deposit samples
* Availability for periodic travel to customer locations (
Other Useful Skills and Abilities

* M.S. or Ph.D. in Biology, Environmental Engineering, or relevant scientific field
* Project leadership experience in a technical organization
* Direct experience in the microbiological characterization of wastewater samples and creation of customer-facing reports
* Utilization of FISH and epifluorescence microscopy techniques to identify filamentous bacteria and other relevant microorganisms associated with wastewater systems
* Superior understanding of microbiological analytical techniques for the characterization of microorganisms in multiple matrices (water, solids, and oil) for both technical consultation and method implementation
* Publications in the area(s) of wastewater, industrial microbiology, and/or molecular biology
