POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Director of Environmental Health and Safety will be responsible for establishing, monitoring and fostering a safety and environmental focused culture at the company. EH&S Director will provide overall leadership, management, and strategic direction to build and maintain Safety and Environmental Management Programs within the organization. This position will report to the Chief Manufacturing Officer.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The Director of Environmental Health and Safety will be responsible for establishing, monitoring and fostering a safety and environmental focused culture at the company. EH&S Director will provide overall leadership, management, and strategic direction to build and maintain Safety and Environmental Management Programs within the organization. This position will report to the Chief Manufacturing Officer.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the development and execution of health & safety, environmental management, vision, mission strategy and functional excellence for the organization
- Develop, implement, and evaluate programs and procedures for all facilities that enhance EH&S awareness and compliance with state, federal, and local government regulations as well as corporate guidelines and policies
- Provide oversight of environmental health and safety compliance in the workplace and Cal OSHA regulations
- Responsible for preparing and obtaining environmental permits from local, state, and federal regulatory agencies
- Develop and Manage the Emergency Response Plan
- Keep up to date with and inform company of any new changes in local, state, and federal environmental, health and safety regulations
- Train staff on new safety procedures and best practices
- Review employee incident reports and medical claims to evaluate the need for potential changes to current policies or procedures
- Manage and meet regulatory agency requirements and deadlines
- Occasional travel to Redding commercial plant
- Develop and maintain strong relationships across the organization
- Provide written reports of safety related issues/results to senior management on a periodic basis or as requested
- Develop safety and environmental plans for small commercial plant jointly with Fortera and CPC site management
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in EH&S, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field
- Minimum 10+ years' experience in EH&S or related field
- OSHA certification
- Advanced knowledge of control of hazardous substances, incident investigation, and health and safety management systems
- Must be highly knowledgeable in EPA, OSHA, DOT regulations
- Strong working knowledge of environmental legislation, preferably in California
- Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Effective communication skills
- Preferred experience with ISO 14001 and 45001 and OHSAS 18001 EHS Management Systems
- Professional certification in related discipline (i.e CSP, CIH, CHMM, or CHCM) preferred
- Familiar with HAZOP and other PHA methodologies preferred
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification preferred
