Who We Are

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is a pioneer of purpose-driven science and Cornell University's second largest college. We work across disciplines to tackle the challenges of our time through world-renowned research, education and outreach. The questions we probe and the answers we seek focus on three overlapping concerns: natural and human systems; food, energy and environmental resources; and social, physical and economic well-being.

The Sustainable Cropping Systems Lab, in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, works to increase cropping system sustainability through ecological intensification. Our research aims to answer applied agricultural questions that will directly benefit farmers. Themes relate to applied agroecology, climate change, and organic production. We are looking for a Tech III to assist in advancing the work of agroecology research. This individual will also ensure that all laboratory protocols and procedures adhere to safety requirements.

What You Will Do

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

* Support and co-manage field research experiments
* Help lead undergraduate research assistant work teams
* Maintain experiment logbooks
* Assist with field maintenance, tillage, mowing, planting
* Assist with data collection, analysis, and write-up
* Co-manage and maintain multi-site corn nitrogen study

This is a 12-month appointment with the possibility of extension contingent on successful performance and continued funding.

What We Need

We are looking for someone with the following qualifications:

* Associate's degree and up to 2 years relevant experience or equivalent combination.
* Experience operating farm equipment.
* Experience sampling soil, taking plant biomass, and weed identification skills.
* Comfortable working in challenging outdoor conditions with a diverse team.
* Must be willing to work alone and within a team.
* Dedication and work ethic are required qualifications.
* Must hold and maintain a valid NYS driver's license.

If you possess these experiences and skills this may be the role for you! There are a few other qualifications that we would view as incredibly helpful in this role, to include:

* Bachelor's degree preferred in Agronomy, Ecology, Plant Breeding, Plant Science, or Soil Science.
* Soil mesofauna identification experience.
* Ability to lift 50 lbs.
* Experience in rodent pest management.
