Job Details

The Environmental Technician plays an important role in the overall mitigation banking process by working internally and externally to ensure that projects are operating properly and completed on time. The Environmental Technician will be responsible for assisting with the production of environmental assessments, conducting and overseeing mitigation related field work, and contributing to restoration-related documents and permits. The Environmental Technician will also assist with the acquisition and maintenance of field equipment, assist with construction oversight and design plan review, and help develop positive relationships with regulatory agencies, environmental consulting firms, conservation organizations, land trusts, and environmental attorneys that are involved in the environmental permitting and/or mitigation industries.

Principal Accountabilities:
  • Conduct technical environmental surveys and produce appropriate reports
  • Perform biological field analyses for potential property acquisition
  • Conduct environmental site assessments using USACE-specific/state-specific assessment methods
  • Conduct geomorphic stream surveys
  • Monitor existing mitigation bank sites across the southeastern region
  • Assist in preparation of regulatory documents including, but not limited to, 404/401 permits, jurisdictional determination requests, mitigation banking documents, monitoring reports and endangered species reports
  • Execute in-field stream and wetland delineations and jurisdictional determinations
  • Ensure timely processing and execution for all regulatory interactions and permitting deliverables
  • Assist with coordination of appropriate regulatory agencies
  • Utilize ArcGIS mapping to support permit applications
  • Assist with development of mitigation plans

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BA/BS degree in Natural Resources, Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, Hydrology, Agricultural Science or similar science
  • Proficiency with office equipment and related software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate across all audiences
  • Knowledge and understanding of environmental permitting, environmental compliance, environmental impact assessments, environmental science, construction compliance and land use planning
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of engineering designs and ability to interpret construction plans and drawings
  • Ability to navigate interpersonal relationships with success
  • Knowledge and experience with applicable government rules and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and/or assignments concurrently
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Indicates a willingness to learn and a desire to grow within the position

Desired Qualifications:
  • 2+ years' workplace experience with increasing responsibilities
  • Permitting experience within the state of South Carolina and other southeastern region states
  • Wetland/stream delineation experience
  • Understanding of Natural Stream Channel Design restoration principles
  • Knowledge and understanding of mitigation banking principles
  • ArcGIS knowledge

Other Requirements:
  • Valid driver's license
  • Experience with operating and maintaining motorized field equipment
  • Travel to various company locations and regulatory agency locations
  • Work in a variety of field conditions that may include walking/hiking large tracts of land under variable climatic conditions and varied terrain
