About the role

We are looking for an outstanding individual to join our Cell Biology and Applications team as a Flow Core technician. This person will interact with scientists and researchers in the Flow Core group and others in the Cell Biology and Applications Department. Primary responsibilities include assisting in the organization of the Flow Coreb, maintenance of sorters and analyzers, daily start-up and shutdown of instruments , and flow panel design and execution..

The ideal candidate will have an education background in one or more of the following disciplines: General Biology, Neurobiology, Developmental Biology, Cancer Biology, or similar fields. For this role, you should have at least 2 years minimum experience in operating flow cytometers and be trained on an analyzer like LSRII or BD Fortessa. You should be able to independently calibrate a flow cytometer, troubleshoot potential failures with minimal supervision, be able to acquire samples by setting the forward and side scatter for easy cell types like PBMCs, T cell lines, etc. and should be familiar with basic fluorophore combinations and easy panel design.

In addition to technical qualifications, you will be highly goal-oriented, independent, collaborative, will be comfortable handling biological samples, can safely handle potential biohazardous materials, be comfortable with refilling and emptying fluids on a cytometer, willing to learn new techniques, platforms, and concepts, and be able to thrive in an atmosphere of shifting demands and priorities.

What you will be doing
  • Assist in daily flow core duties (start-up, shutdown, QC, sample acquisition)s
  • Assist in the troubleshooting potential flow cytometry failures
  • Assist in designing flow panels
  • Maintain cooperative, professional, and positive attitude when interacting with others
    internally and externally
  • Communicate any issues in the core quickly and effectively
  • Document any maintenance/performance issues

Minimum Requirements
  • BS/MS in one of the following disciplines: Biology, Cancer biology, or similar
  • 2+ years of hands-on training on analyzers like LSRII or BD Fortessa
  • Experience in calibrating independently a flow cytometer and troubleshooting calibration failures
  • Knowledge of how to acquire simple samples by setting the forward and side scatter
  • Experience in designing fluorophore panels and also setting them up
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong record-keeping skills
  • Desire to be part of a rapidly evolving organization, which requires flexibility and a willingness to take initiative, and learn new techniques and concepts
  • Committed to total customer satisfaction with outstanding interpersonal skills and professionalism
Preferred Skills/Experience
  • Trained on flow sorters, preferable Sony MA900 or BD FACSAria II y
  • Able to set Fluorescent PMT Voltages with minimum supervision
  • Experience in sample compensation (manual and automated)
