GRADE: 71

SALARY: Begins at $46,380/year with full benefits package.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The Sampson County Health Department seeks a motivated and energetic team player to assist with promoting and protecting the public health through enforcement of state and local environmental laws, educational programs and consultations with the public in the Water and Wastewater Section. The purpose of this job is to oversee the onsite staff as well as evaluate and permit as required for the following: soil site evaluations, inspects final septic system installations, evaluates failing septic systems, inspects new well construction and abandonments, and collects water samples from new and existing wells and maintenance inspections of existing septic systems.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to: independently plan and schedule work activities and perform assignments, apply environmental health knowledges and techniques in the investigation of environmental health problems, work with others in solving the more complex environmental problems, and exercise sound judgment and deal tactfully with a wide range of public contacts while enforcing public health laws and regulations in inherent to the position.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum of a bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in the physical or biological sciences and two years of exposure in environmental health; or a bachelor's or master's degree in Environmental Health from a program accredited by the National Accreditation Council for Environmental Health Curricula of the National Environmental Health Association and one year of experience in environmental health. Applicants must be registered as a Sanitarian by the NC State Board of Sanitarian Examiners and have a valid NC driver's license. Applicants will need to be registered as EHS with NC State Board of EHS as required under G.S. 90A-52 and have a valid NC driver's license.
