Job Summary:

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide transport services:
- Transport animals between HRA locations and to/from, and veterinary partners.
- Maintain awareness of the health and well-being of each animal being transported. Immediately react to animals in distress or urgent need of attention, providing care as much as possible, safe, and appropriate, and seeking emergency assistance when needed.
- Follow HRA standard operating procedures when loading, transporting, and unloading animals.
- Clean and disinfect transport crates and vehicles after each use by an animal, per HRA standard operating procedures.
- Ensure that necessary paperwork is transported with animals.
- Load and unload animals in carriers, crates, and traps, and on leash.
- Perform deliveries and pick-ups of supplies and materials as needed.
- Provide routine vehicle maintenance for HRA transport and adoption vehicles:
- Maintain ¾ tank of gas in every vehicle.
- Ensure cleanliness of vehicles, by washing (interior and exterior) as necessary after every animal transport. Ensure readiness for immediate use.
- Create, update, and maintain a Vehicle Maintenance Schedule.
- Make vehicle maintenance appointments as needed.
- Address any inspection and registration notices and any recall and take the vehicles for inspection.
- Coordinate with the Animal Care Director when vehicles must be out of service for maintenance or repairs in order to ensure the least disruption to programmatic activities.
- Administrative Support
- Manage expenses related to vehicle maintenance and other department purchases. Complete and submit credit card reconciliation report(s) as required.
- Comply with all applicable safety rules and procedures.
- Respond to email, text and phone communications throughout the workday, ensuring timeliness.
- Always represent HRA in a professional and courteous manner. Provide quality service to the public, volunteers, and employees recognizing their individual contributions to the success of the organization.
- Animal Care routine:
- Clean, disinfect, and maintain all animal housing spaces on a daily and continuous basis, adhering to HRA Standard Operating Procedures and protocols for animal care, kennel maintenance, sanitation, parasite and disease control, and other animal care practices
- Provide appropriate diet, clean water, and enrichment to all animals according to SOPs and as directed by management and medical personnel
- Monitor animals' health and behaviors, and record observations.
- Record clear and concise notes regarding animal behavior and care in PetPoint
- Move animals around the facility as directed by animal care management team and ensure that all animal locations and stages are correctly entered into PetPoint
- Keep all animal areas stocked with food, litter, cleaning supplies, and other essential items, informing Managers when items need replenishment or repair
- Put away deliveries and donations of animal care and cleaning supplies throughout the day as they are delivered
- Maintain the cleanliness of common and public areas assigned to the Animal Care team
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Basic knowledge of routine vehicle maintenance needs.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Ability to drive a variety of HRA vehicles safely.
- Basic animal handling skills, and willingness and ability to handle dogs, cats and other species with or without assistance.
- Ability to routinely work evenings, weekends and holidays as scheduled.
- Basic understanding of animal care needs, and ability to assess urgent and changing needs of animals in transport.
- Proficient in computer programs including Microsoft Office programs, email, database management software, PetPoint, and other programs used to complete assigned tasks.
- Ability to work effectively, both independently and in a team environment, in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures.
- Ability to be flexible, detail-oriented and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, the general public, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to communicate in a friendly and professional manner with a variety of individuals representing the public, board members, volunteers, donors, and employees.
- Passion for the Humane Rescue Alliance mission, for caring for all animals regardless of age, breed, temperament, or species, and supporting and educating members of the public, free of judgment or bias.

- Regularly moves about all locations to coordinate work.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted regularly, 50+ pounds assisted.
- Ability to be comfortable working with cats, dogs, small animals, reptiles, fish, and wildlife.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis, including but not limited to lifting and carrying, reaching, stooping, standing, squatting, and bending.
- Ability to safely manage exposure to chemicals, dust, dirt, water, stacked material, varying temperatures, and electrical equipment.
- Due to the nature of shelter work, may be exposed to deceased, fractious, or aggressive animals; hostile or irate persons; zoonotic or other diseases; unpleasant noises, odors, or sights; and extreme temperatures.
Education and Experience:
- Animal handling experience preferred; willingness and ability to obtain proficiency with basic handling required.
