Job Purpose/Summary:

Sonoma Biotherapeutics is seeking a motivated Senior Associate Scientist / Scientist to join our fast-growing and well-organized team to build the best-in-class regulatory T cell therapies for autoimmune diseases. This individual will join the Process Biology team and will assist in establishing the capabilities to characterize cell products via genetic or molecular methods for understanding the biology behind Sonoma procedures and products. In addition, consistent coordination across Sonoma from early research to manufacturing in developing Sonoma processes and help with daily laboratory routines. In this position, the candidate will have the opportunity to utilize cutting-edge Treg science and cellular techniques to develop the next generation of cell therapies for autoimmune diseases and participate the communication of interdisciplinary teams.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Execute the processes of Sonoma pipelines via company standard procedures/developing protocols.
  • Perform developed QC assays such as cellular phenotyping, cell expansion, and ELISA.
  • Facilitate and develop procedures/protocols to expand the capabilities of product characterization via FACS, qPCR and/or high-throughput screening (RNA-seq and ATAC-seq etc.).
  • Coordinate with colleagues to organize workflow and SOP documentation.
  • Maintain and document daily activities.


Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Sr Associate Scientist - BS/MS degree or higher with hands-on bench experience in Biological Sciences such as aging biology, immunology, biotechnology or a related discipline.
  • Scientist - BS/MS/PhD degree with hands-on bench experience.
  • >3 years of multi-color flow cytometry experience is required.
  • 1-3 years of molecular biology experience (DNA methylation, PCR and qPCR etc.) is required.
  • Experience with processing human blood and primary T cell isolation/culture is required.
  • Strong scientific understanding and logical thinking are required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to analyze/present data and write reports efficiently.
  • Agile mindset and comfortable in a rapid-moving team and a highly productive environment.


Preferred Skills:

  • >3 years industrial laboratory experience is preferred.
  • Experience with characterizing cellular senescence via genetic/molecular assays is a plus.
  • Experience with library prep of high-throughput analysis like RNA-seq or ATAC-seq is preferred.
  • Experience with data analysis software such as Prism or JMP is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ELN system is a plus.


A day in the life:

The day-to-day life of a team member of Process Biology is operating the processes of Sonoma Treg products with our established SOPs, and develop genetic/molecular methods for product characterization. As the member of Process Biology, you will have hand-on experiences of industrial procedure/documentation of Treg production and development of feasible methods to dissect Sonoma products via Sonoma procedures, and coordinate with product team to improve procedures of pipeline at Sonoma Biotherapeutics.
