San Diego Audubon Society (SDAS), a non-profit organization working to promote the protection and appreciation of birds, other wildlife, and their habitats in San Diego County, seeks a highly motivated individual passionate about our mission to serve as the organization's Grant Coordinator. The Grant Coordinator will play a critical role in ensuring SDAS generates the revenue needed to execute its dynamic programming. You will be responsible for implementing all aspects of grant management from research, tracking, writing and reporting. You will collaborate with staff to plan, develop and execute grants. The Grant Coordinator will report directly to the Director of Development.

Essential Duties

• Research, prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals for federal, state and local governments and corporate and private foundations that comply with funding guidelines, demonstrate strong program design, and present a compelling need for financial support.

• Ensure seamless and timely process for all tasks, communications, and reports related to the grant process, including letters of inquiry, proposals, reports, and stewardship activities.

• Interface with Conservation and Education program staff to effectively assess needs and gather required information for the preparation of applications/proposals and reports.

• Collaborate with colleagues to compile impact reports for funders and report on grant deliverables.

• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the grant records maintained and tracked.

• Support cultivation and stewardship efforts through the preparation of briefing materials, donor updates, and other efforts.

• Manage contract compliance and file maintenance including an ongoing update of all grants and compliance needs and deadlines for applications and reporting.

• Prepare agendas and schedule and lead grant meetings.

Qualifications

• Three years of writing and proposal development experience, preferably in a nonprofit or academic setting

• Knowledge of how to research, identify, and match funding resources to meet specific needs.

• Knowledge of how to craft, construct, and submit an effective grant application. • Familiarity with public and private online applications.

• Ability to listen carefully to and understand the organization's needs proactively and respond to those needs in a consistent and timely manner.

• Methodical and organized with excellent attention to detail, and a stickler for accuracy.

• Must be able to work under pressure, use independent judgment, and produce a quality product within tight time constraints.

• Ability to manage multiple deadlines concurrently.

• Proficient computer skills, especially in Excel, PowerPoint and Word; familiarity with equivalent donor databases is also preferred.

• Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to establish and work collaboratively and cooperatively with a variety of colleagues in different departments both remotely and in-person.

• Demonstrated competence in working effectively with individuals from diverse educational and/or cultural backgrounds.

Preferences

• At least 3 years of experience as a grant writer with a proven track record of securing foundation, corporate, government, and private donor grants. Knowledge of the San Diego funding landscape is preferred.

Salary, Benefits & Terms

This a part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. The wage for this position is $23-25 per hour.

Hours worked per week will be scheduled by your supervisor, averaging 20 hours per week.
