Responsible for supporting the company's governance process ensuring global legal, regulatory, customer specific and industry requirements for the America's Base sites
  • An incumbent in this position is expected to develop their skills and knowledge of chemical regulatory and environmental programs to the point of taking Area Chemical and Environmental responsibility and then succeeding the current holder of this position
Essential Duties And/or Responsibilities

The essential functions of the job, include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Assure chemical compliance of product in conformance with global regulations, customer requirements, industry standards and company requirements
  • Researching and keeping current on chemical requirements
  • Chemical program, procedure & requirement training
  • Liaison with NJ Chemical Substance Control Group (CSMG), attend monthly (virtual) CSMG meetings and follow NJ chemical substance directives
  • New raw material regulatory oversight & review chemical surveys as needed
  • Instruct on or arrange for chemical analysis based on requirements for products and raw materials
  • Maintain NA chemical surveys
  • Monitor & advise on customer & regulatory chemical requirements, collect site information as needed or requested
  • ISO14001 system support, other system support as qualified and auditing as needed
Key Decision / Dimensions
  • Interpretation of company, regulatory and customer requirements and 3rd party guidance to determine the need for support preparation of Chemical procedures, policies and programs, and training advisements, and in preparation for requested product-chemical certifications, in review of raw material or purchased finished good certifications or chemical surveys and to determine the need for analysis
  • Identify when an action or omission could have significant consequences and either advise or escalate as necessary
  • Collect site chemical survey distribution information for Base group sites (presently 8) Distribute to Base sites at least 1 survey/year
  • Determine % of surveys returned vs. sent and share with NJ at monthly CSMG meeting
Support evaluation of site analytical data and supplier response pertaining to ppm or % of chemical content
Encourage implementation of compliance activities (example: SACRA input of raw material composition) at Base especially where resources are limited

Overcome by effectively communicating the importance and compliance impact of the activity and express willingness to train and review requirements and programs

Minimum Education And/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree; Environmental, chemical, or other technical discipline a plus; 5 years' experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment or a combination of related experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Training or experience in environmental management systems, ISO14001 auditing a bonus
  • Applied knowledge and interpretation of global chemical substance requirements and preparation of chemical certifications
  • SDS preparations and programs, and general knowledge of OSHA's Globally Harmonized System helpful
  • Understanding and experience in hazardous materials shipping regulations is a plus
  • Prior direct support for customers and requesting supplier's chemical information a plus
  • Experienced in use of Microsoft applications
Certificates, Licenses And/or Registrations
  • ISO14001 Auditor training certificate a plus
