Job Description

The main responsibility of the position will be to implement and improve existing, and develop new flood mapping methods and technologies, and build on the success of our recently released Inland Flood Models for US, Central Europe, and Japan as we expand into the rest of Europe and other countries. You will work with meteorologists, climate scientists, engineers, software professionals, statisticians, and actuaries to incorporate the latest flood modeling technologies into cutting-edge flood risk assessment software. Your contributions will help provide our clients with tools and data used to make informed decisions about flood risk.

About The Day-to-Day Responsibilities Of The Role
  • Set up, calibrate, and run river hydraulics and pluvial flood models
  • Analyze gauge records, study the effects of flood defense structures and tides on river flooding in coastal areas
  • Develop and validate large scale flood maps based on physical principles
  • Develop computer programs to automate data capture, flood mapping techniques, and post-process model results
Communicate results to team members, stakeholders, and clients

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Civil/Environmental/Hydraulic Engineering or Master's degree with associated professional experience
  • Prior experience in developing and applying river hydraulics and/or urban flooding models
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++/C# or python, and experience with parallel programming and GPUs
  • Knowledge of computational hydraulics, including numerically solving PDEs
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Familiarity with existing hydraulic models, e.g., HEC series models is a plus
Experience in GIS applications such as ArcGIS and GDAL is a plus
