Education Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Geospatial Science, or
Experience: Previous GIS and related field experience preferred, but not necessary
§ Organized, detailed-oriented, self-starter with ability to work with minimal supervision
§ Good written and oral communication skills
§ Computer proficiency to include: Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, etc.
§ Knowledge of ESRI GIS software, geodatabases, raster and vector data formats
§ Knowledge of GPS applications, and experience with field data collection
§ Some overnight travel (10%) may be required
§ Ability to obtain a valid Texas class C driver license within 30 days of employment
§ Knowledge of IT and networking preferred
§ Knowledge of website maintenance and social media sites preferred
§ Knowledge of drones, image processing, and applications towards forestry is preferred

Geographic data is a fundamental component of our core business processes and is used in all aspects of the company's operations, from planning and logistics to quality control and invoicing. As the GIS Specialist with Acorn, you will be responsible for generating, editing, and delivering map products, ensuring the quality and accuracy of geographic information, and adapting spatial products to a range of forest management operations. Some field work such as data collection, mapping, supervision of field personnel, and operational support may be required.
This is a 90% office, 10% field position. Silviculture operations may be physically demanding and are often conducted in harsh environmental conditions including temperature and weather extremes, smoke, dust, bugs, rough topography, and brush.
