Position Summary
The Director of Research position is primarily responsible for overseeing and coordinating research initiatives and policy, as well as supervising assigned staff. The Director of Research is responsible for ensuring the dissemination of Center for Global Energy Policy research at the local, state, national and global level with the support of the Communications Department through media, trainings, and conference opportunities. Must have advanced expertise and applied experience in research methods, statistics, program management and evaluation with a keen understanding of public policy issues facing those within the Energy Sector, with an eye towards energy policy trends globally and nationally.

Position Summary
The Director of Research position is primarily responsible for overseeing and coordinating research initiatives and policy, as well as supervising assigned staff. The Director of Research is responsible for ensuring the dissemination of Center for Global Energy Policy research at the local, state, national and global level with the support of the Communications Department through media, trainings, and conference opportunities. Must have advanced expertise and applied experience in research methods, statistics, program management and evaluation with a keen understanding of public policy issues facing those within the Energy Sector, with an eye towards energy policy trends globally and nationally.
Responsibilities
- Develops research agenda aligned with strategic priorities of CGEP.
- Collaboratively contributes to CGEP's strategic plan and provides input for development and growth utilizing the research findings, trends and needs identified
- Identifies research gaps and leads on research proposals.
- Assists the Director in the development of CGEP's in policy agenda.
- Implements evaluation framework to track impact, document successes, and lessons learned
- May serve as principal investigator on primary research studies/exploratory projects.
- In conjunction with other senior scholars, refines and documents program models and outcomes.
- Oversees all research related components and outcomes of projects/grants.
- Manages all aspects of assigned projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and under limited supervision.
- Provides supervision and training to research staff in the areas of assessment and survey development, research design, logic modeling, statistical analysis, synthesis of data, and report writing.
- Gives voice to data and research through various mediums including speaking at professional conferences to advance CGEP's mission, research, and initiatives.
- Publishes articles in journals or CGEP publications that increase awareness of critical issues and research findings.
- Speaks to media regarding CGEP's research
- Identifies and helps resolve project management problems regarding data collection, database design, statistical analysis or report production.
- In consultation with the Director and executive leadership team, discusses organization direction, strategic planning in light of potential barriers, political climate, communication strategies, and staffing and budget issues as they arise.
- Supports, leads and monitors grant writing when applicable
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 8-10 years post-degree related work experience.
- Extensive knowledge of energy economics, international relations, climate change, public policy, and related issues as demonstrated through both prior professional experience and academic preparation.
- A proven record of successful engagement at senior levels and the ability to achieve consensus and interact effectively with multiple high
- Advanced degree required.
- Must possess prior experience in an academic environment.
- Strong communication skills required including written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with all levels of faculty, staff and administrators across departments.
- Ability to compile statistical data and reports necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in energy, economics, public policy, foreign policy, international affairs, or national security preferred.
