Responsibilities:
  • Provide guidance to the plant site regarding environmental programs and permits.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of documentation and filing of all reports related to permits to keep the plant in good standing with the state and federal environmental regulatory agencies.
  • Air, water, and waste permitting (complete, monitor, assess, etc.) SARA Title 3 and Tier 2 reporting.
  • Compliance with Federal and State Programs by monitoring and reporting for all air/water and waste permits.
  • Ensure management is aware of new environmental regulations and the site impact.
  • Owner of Environmental Stewardship committee for waste minimization process.
  • Audit/review of outside waste processing contractors.
  • Active role in spill and release incident investigations.
  • Coordinate activity for all corrective action items generated by incident investigations, internal and external health and safety audits.
  • Provide technical resources for review of new project environmental impact.
  • Participate in industrial associations and state programs that monitor and influence path of new regulations.
  • Respond to internal and external auditing of compliance.
  • Communicate issues that impact compliance to the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Meeting with agency representatives and negotiation for permits - water discharge permit has been annually and several air construction permits each year. Liaison with these agency inspectors during annual inspection or during an emergency event.
  • Update compliance program to meet corp., state, federal and internal changes.
  • Quarterly and/or annual reports for hazardous waste generator status, Form R, lead, asbestos generation reports, and ground water remediation.
  • Manage environmental training (creation, delivery, review, update, etc.).
  • Serve as ESSH sponsor for appropriate and/or assigned plant committees.
  • Serve as site champion and process owner of RCMS registration and continuance.
  • Responsible for working with area personnel and training as necessary to ensure that environmental compliance responsibilities are communicated and understood across the plant site.
  • Owner of compliance software system.
  • Submit reports of environmental deviations to permitting authority.
  • Comply with all safety/health/environmental related policies and procedures, participates in company sponsored safety programs and activities, and reports to management those conditions or actions by employees or others that might create a hazard to themselves or others in the plant. Reports any work-related injury or illness, no matter how minor, to their manager.
  • Implement strong environmental stewardship strategies to achieve regulatory and corporate requirements, advance site and corporate procedure development and auditing, and drive reduction of environmental footprints.
  • Engage and interface with regulatory agencies, prepare required documentation and reports.
  • Review environmental regulations and determine applicability and strategic path forward direction, including upgrades of corporate/site documentation, programs, projects, and practices;
  • Communicate environmental issues (with ESSH and site leadership) in community interactions;
  • Drive continuous improvement in site Responsible Care 14001 Management Systems;
  • Develop and deliver environmental training.
  • Identify the key Environmental risks for the site and develop (with the ESSH and site's leadership team) a multi-functional plan to address annually.

Requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both oral and written) at various levels throughout the organization and with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to utilize MS Office applications for regulatory data management, training, and reporting.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Basic knowledge of general health and safety OSHA regulations.
  • Degree: BS Degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Sciences or equivalent.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in the area of environmental regulations within a manufacturing operations facility.
