Senior EHS Engineer

As a Senior EHS Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap

into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and

diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
  • Ensuring compliance to all applicable standards and regulations, and conformance to all environmental, health and safety expectations.
  • Interpreting, implementing, coordinating, and maintaining the regulatory compliance rhythm to assure completion of reporting and recording for applicable Federal, State and Local Environmental permits, regulations, and programs.
  • Analyzing environmental data, self-assessments, reports, trends and communicating findings and recommendations for correction of gaps to operational leadership
  • Supporting the Ames environmental, health and safety team in meeting the broad spectrum of EHS standards.
  • Communicating EHS projects and/or program status and results to operational leadership.

To set you up for success in this role from day one, we require(at a minimum) the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Five (5) years of experience with environmental compliance and reporting in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
  • Master's degree or higher in a science, engineering, or environmental health and safety (EHS) discipline from an accredited institution
  • Experience with state and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations and implementation of comprehensive EHS management systems
  • Professional EHS certification(s)


Location: Ames, IA

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic/international

  • Onsite 100% with some occasional flexibility to work from home .
  • Normal hours are 7am-4pm M-F but hours and days are adjustable as this is a salaried position.


Of the E/H/S which is most important? What will they be spending the majority of their time on?

Majority of time on environmental applications with added health and safety for well-rounded EHS professional. Our plant is not large or complex enough to have strictly a full time environmental engineer but the environmental elements can be coached and learned

How mature is the EHS environment/standards?

Very mature

Can you please explain 1-2 projects that this person could be working on?

1) Water Management Standard implementation - requirements above and beyond regulatory requirements dealing with storm water applications and sampling parameters and documentation

2) Air Quality Management Standard Implementation - Determine what part(s) of the AQMS applies to the site and implement the air/stack testing or observations and documentation
