Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Assistant Manager

The Environmental Health and Safety Assistant manager will be working with site leadership and team members to implement and improve site safety, health, and environmental programs in a production environment with chemicals. The EHS Assistant Manager will help ensure safe work environments while complying with applicable EHS regulations. This position is expected to progress into EHS Manager position.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for adherence to company policies including safety and the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Supports effective safety and environmental programs and recommends changes as appropriate.
  • Participates in accident investigations, develops accident trend analysis, and coordinates programs for improving performance.
  • Creates, reviews, and updates safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Facilitates inspections, audits, and training programs as required to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Provides support for complying with permits, maintaining records, managing data, and reports according to federal, state, and local laws.
  • Educates, trains, and provides support for new hires and personnel on safety, health, and environmental programs. Organizes, coordinates, or performs annual training.
  • Assists with implementation and resolution of safety work orders.
  • Supports the hazard assessment process and provides solutions to prevent future hazards.
  • Assists with industrial hygiene assessments, evaluations and develops alternatives to provide for a safe working environment.
  • Maintains the Environment, Health, and Safety communication board.
  • Reviews and maintains Safety Data Sheets (SDS) on materials used in the workplace.
  • Supports plant emergency plans and procedures and coordinates emergency responses.
  • Facilitates Safety Committees, Job Hazard Analysis, and Standard Operating Procedure activities.
  • Supports and facilitates an employee safety incentive program and a plant recycling program.
  • Helps ensure proper disposal of waste and supports a plant-wide effort to minimize waste.

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in an EHS related field and at least 7 years' experience in an Industrial or Chemical environment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with a variety of EHS concepts, practices, and procedures including knowledge of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Labor (DOL), environmental laws and other EHS laws recommended.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written communication skills; working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications; organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.


Mental and Physical Requirements:
  • This position performs in an industrial manufacturing environment, subject to hot and cold temperatures and a wide variance of noise. The employee will climb stairs and ladders; walk on paved and unpaved surfaces. The employee will sit or stand at a desk and operate a computer and keyboard. They need visual acuity to review and prepare written documentation; ability to hear, speak, and understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone; have manual dexterity to operate a telephone and other office equipment. This position requires the employee to lift horizontally and vertically, bend, stoop, stand, twist, and reach. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. The position requires you to collect environmental samples. This position requires the ability to work well under high pressure situations and to meet regulatory deadlines.
