Roles & Responsibilities:

The Center for Disease Neurogenomics at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking a highly motivated Associate Computational Biologist to work in the fields of Single Cell Neurogenomics. The post will suit an ambitious and talented individual who is interested in applying his/her skills at the interface of human disease and genetics. The candidate is expected to apply existing single-cell methods as well as develop new methods for the multi-scale single-cell transcriptome and epigenome analysis.

This position has the opportunity on developing or enhancing skills in single-cell genomics, machine learning, and big data analytics. The appointed researcher will be embedded in an interdisciplinary team of clinicians, wet lab scientists, bioinformaticians, statistical geneticists, and computational biologists. The candidate should have a strong background and experience in one or more of the following areas: single-cell genomics, machine learning, multi-variable statistics, open-source software development, or bioinformatics; strong programming skills using Python or R; effective communication skills; self-motivated and independent.

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Analyze large-scale single-cell data using established pipelines.
  • Benchmark new single-cell methods and integrate them into the pipeline.
  • Develop new single-cell methods for areas lacking support of existing tools.
  • Collaborate with researchers in the world through international consortiums
  • Participate in the preparation of manuscripts, grants, and presentations.

Requirements:
  • M.S. in Bioinformatics, Computer Sciences, Statistics, or related discipline
  • 2 years of experience in single-cell data analysis -OR- Ph.D. in a related field
  • Advanced knowledge of either Python or R; a track record of software code version control (i.e., GitHub), or contribution to open-source software development is a plus
  • Experience working in high-performance computing (HPC) environment
  • Good work ethics, organization, and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to productively work as a member of a team
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
