The Position

Genentech continues to develop its world-class capabilities in computational biology and machine learning to power our rapidly growing data science and computational efforts. We seek an experienced, motivated, strategic leader to guide and expand the existing team of talented computational biologists and bioinformatic scientists within the Research organization.

The successful candidate will plan and drive the development and implementation of innovative computational biology strategies that enable our organization to maximize the scientific insights extracted from biological data generated at scale. These data types include, but are not limited to, high-dimensional genomics (with an emphasis on multi-modal single-cell genomics, spatial methods, and high content screens), human genetics, proteomics, clinical trials, and real-world clinical data. These will derive from both internal data generation efforts (often in the context of reverse translation conducted in samples from trial participants), and the efficient use of external data. The successful candidate will have a critical role in ensuring that these data guide target and biomarker discovery, prioritization and translation across a range of disease areas.

Applicants must have strong communication and collaboration skills, a learning mindset, the ability to work in a dynamic research environment, and an overriding commitment to pursuing creative solutions to challenging problems arising from the desire to translate understanding of human pathobiology into novel therapeutics.

Genentech provides an exceptional research environment led by internationally-recognized leaders, access to state of the art core facilities with cutting edge technologies, and a commitment and drive for innovation. We foster a highly inclusive and collaborative community: the person in this post will interact closely with computational biologists throughout the organization, with software engineers, research scientists, clinical development teams and others, to deliver transformative therapies to patients.
