The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking an Atmospheric, Aerosol, Aerobiology - Scientist or Engineer.

Job Summary: Lead and contribute to research, development, and characterization projects in aerosol and biological sciences to help understand and mitigate the impacts of chemical-biological and health-related aerosol threats.

Duties: Contribute to teams in funded projects involving research and development and characterization of aerosols within a diverse set of research areas (biodefense, healthcare, etc.). Demonstrate technical leadership through designing and performing experiments, analyzing data, and writing technical reports. Publish and present findings to our sponsors and the broader scientific community.

Qualifications:

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

Possess a BS or BE in engineering, science, or related discipline and experience with aerosol analytical equipment and methods.

Experience with laboratory measurements of aerosol properties.

Strong written and verbal communications skills. Strong hands-on laboratory skills.

The ability to manage multiple simultaneous assignments and changing priorities.

Methodical, meticulous work practices and excellent interpersonal, logical reasoning, and organizational skills.

The ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment with scientists and engineers representing different backgrounds, skills, and experience levels.

Are able to obtain a Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Possess a MS in Science or Engineering in a relevant field.

Record of publications in aerobiology and/or bioaerosol and aerosol science.

Experience developing and assembling test hardware and performing field testing with biological or chemical sensors and samplers.

Familiarity working with biological and chemical agent or simulant aerosol.

Experiences with biological detection technologies.

The ability to write clearly.

Knowledge of statistical data analysis methods and experimental design. Experience and training in managing small teams and projects.
